Why Do You Need Dietary Fiber?
Fiber:
Fiber is found mainly in fruits, vegetables and whole grains. Fiber is also found in a legume which is well known as it prevents constipation. Fiber is lowering the risk of diabetes and heart problems.
The other name for dietary fiber is Roughage or Bulk. Dietary fiber will not be digested by the human body though proteins and carbohydrates are digested and absorbed by the body.
What is Dietary Fiber?
A part of a plant which provides the structure of the plant is known as dietary fiber. Dietary fibers are Pectin, Lignin, Mucilage, Hemicelluloses and Cellulose etc. Increase the amount of dietary fiber in your diet since it is helpful to correct the disorders of the large intestine and makes the colon to function properly.
What is the function of the colon?
The digestion process of a human body is complete only by the function of large intestine. It removes the excess water from food wastes which enter from the small intestine. Large amount of water is absorbed by the intestine and the result is constipation.
Classification:
Classification of dietary fiber is as follows:
1) Soluble fiber
2) Insoluble fiber.
Soluble Fiber:
Soluble fiber does not dissolve in water to form a gel-like material. The Cholesterol and glucose levels are reduced in Blood with the help of soluble fiber. Peas, Beans, oats, Apples, citrus fruits and Barley are the food items having soluble fiber in it.
Insoluble Fiber:
Insoluble fiber increases the movement of food material in the digestive system. So constipation is reduced to large extent. Nuts, wheat bran, whole-wheat flour and vegetables are the food items having insoluble fiber with it. The Greatest health benefit is achieved by eating a wide variety of high-fiber foods because each type of plant food contain different amount of fiber with it.
