Special Edition - Muhas Vs Samuels

Well this one was different then what we are all used to. As I previously wrote I did not think that I would have time to really connect to the contestants in 2 hours. Well I didnt really connect with them and didnt feel nervous or anxious during the final weigh in.

Team Muha -

Otto the father started out at 259 pounds. His main goal of being on the show seemed to be to lose weight and become healthy again. Shaun the mother started out at 232 pounds and her weight problem was caused by depression of the son being in the Air Force. Finally Erica started off at 233 pounds and her goal was to lose weight so she can be within weight requirements to join the Air Force and protect the country she loves.

Team Samuels (Showtime!)

Don the father started out at 243 pounds and his main goal was to lose weight to become healthy again and put some years on his life. Melony the mother started at 197. She is a cancer survivor and was ready to tackle her next big challenge in life, to get healthy again so she would have a greater chance not to get the cancer back. Finally Ravee the daughter started at 177 pounds and would love to loss weight and become an entertainer.

Well the first two weeks the two families were at the ranch. They started off as every show did by climbing the mountain. The symbolism behind this first challenge is making it to the top and the rest of the weight loss will be down hill.

The first challange was a race across the desert carrying a massive ice cream sundae. Also they were followed by ice cream trucks, not sure why :). Both teams had to stop a few times since the weight was more than they could handle. At the end the Muhas pulled ahead and won. The prizes they receive were a camera, computer, and a printer.

The second challenge was a written test. Both teams seemed to do very well and they had a handbook to go through to find the answers. The winner by 1 question was the Muha team. For the win they got a $2,500 shopping spree.

Don from the Samuels family was kind of down from losing both challenges and were really pumped up during one of their workouts. When he started to show some emotion/aggresion towards team Muha, Otto responded by challenging him to a footrace thinking he wouldnt lose. Well lose he did. Don won the race by a healthy distance which gave hope back to the Samuels family.

Then the first weigh in! This was two weeks into the show so I was expecting the normal huge numbers because of water weight. The weights were as follows.

Otto Lost 25 lbs. (234 lbs.) Don Lost 23 lbs. (220 lbs.)
Shaun Lost 18 lbs. (214 lbs.) Melony Lost 14 lbs. (183 lbs.)
Erica Lost 15 lbs. (218 lbs.) Ravee Lost 18 lbs. (159 lbs.)

Following the weighs in which the Samuels won it was time to return home and put what they learned to work.

When they arrived back to their house they notice some changes. Their houses were outfitted with brand new workout equipment and a new/stocked kitchen. I think this helped them a great deal with getting adapted to starting their weight loss in the “real world”.

Thoughout the time their the families seemed to be working out (not to heavily) until they received some new motivation by a suprise visit from their trainers Bob and Jillian. Honestly I did not see any of them sweat until they showed up. After their workout they were left of their audition tape to give them some motivation on how far they have come and it would be useless to quit now.

The final weigh in! Heres the results.

Otto Lost 89 lbs. (170 lbs.) Don Lost 55 lbs. (188 lbs.)
Shaun Lost 78 lbs. (154 lbs.) Melony Lost 48 lbs. (149 lbs.)
Erica Lost l52 lbs. (181 lbs.) Ravee Lost 41 lbs. (136 lbs.)

At the end the Muha family beat out the Samuels family to win the $50,000.

All in all it was a great episode and I look forward to more to come. But personally I do like the longer seasons better because you get to know the contestants more and can connect with them.
