The Biggest Loser Second Chance
Tonight’s episode of NBC’s The Biggest Loser, Second Chance, opens with a flashback to the first day weigh-in, our final four’s first date with Bob and Jillian, and of course, my favorite part, morphing from day one to current day. In the elimination room, Alison tells them that they will be going home for 60 days to face all the temptations that got them in trouble in the first place and then come back and face the scale one more time to decide the final three.
Then its limo rides home for each of the final four. Danny says he is succeeding at his dream. Rudy wants to show his family that his time away was not lost, it was a gain in the time he will be able to spend with them. Liz says she has control of her destiny and it is going to be way different, she has a new lease on life and how many get that. Amada says she has lost 70 pounds and she would never have thought she could do it. She says she is a new confident person and believes in herself. Then we see them arrive home to their family and firends cheering and hugs. (Best sign spotted in Danny’s welcome home crowd: Biggest Loser Shrunk My Kid) Danny makes a speech then asks his wife to marry him again and renew their vows as he hands her a little silver gift… which she doesn’t open.
Danny says part of getting the weight off and keeping it off is to get the mind right. He says when he struggles he goes for a long drive. He says if he doesn’t figure out what made him gain 250 pounds, then it may happen again. Amanda says she is scared and right now is in the honeymoon phase and fears what may happen when reality sets in that she is on her own. Rudy talks about the death of his sister when he was 12 years old. He says his sister’s losing her battle with cancer was the beginning of his battle with weight. He says looking at his emotional issues will not be easy, but he know that he must. Liz says she has changed so much in this whole process and still has a lot more to go. She says that she and her husband have known for years that they have issues. She tells us she had become so resentful, bitter and angry. She says the new Liz won’t be like that anymore. We see her walking with her husband. She tells him they have not had the adventure and fun in their life because of her weight. Her husband says he knows and wants her to fall in love with him again. Liz tells him this is their second chance, she doesn’t want a divorce, she wants to work it out.
Each of our final four receive a package which contains a video. It’s a pep talk video from Bob and Jillian and a recap of their time at the ranch. They are reminded that the 60 days will go fast and not to let one of them get away. After watching their videos, they receive a call from Bob and Jillian who tell them they have to do one more thing – it’s Biggest Loser rite of passage… they will run a marathon – 26.2 miles. Rudy says no, he never even walked that far. Amanda says she will be ready. Danny gets reassurance from his wife that he can do it. Liz recalls how long it took Ron to complete the marathon last season.
Chef Curtis Stone arrives to give Danny and his wife some tips for simple meals. He shows them how to make turkey chili which he uses to stuff a baked potato that is only 200 calories that compares to a regular stuffed potato at 890 calories.
Time for Bob and Jillian to pay a call of each of the final four. First up, Bob visits Rudy. Rudy tells Bob he doesn’t have 6-8 hours a day to work out. He says he works 12 hours a day and then works out for only too. Rudy seems to be really stressed and it is shows in his attitude and his face.
Jillian suprises Liz working in the field. She tells Jillian that she drives to the gym everyday. Jillian worries that Liz is isolated since her husband is away during the week. Liz tells Jillian that she has to be true to herself. Jillian and Liz go for a run.
Bob hides in the bushes to surprise Amanda on her morning run. Bob and Amanda talk about making decisions. He tells her that she know how to take the weight off, but she also knows how to put it back on. Amanda surprises Bob by bringing out Erin. Bob asks her how she is doing. She says she has lost 42 pounds. She went to Fitness Ridge to jumpstart her weight loss.
Jillian talks with Danny. He says his family has figured out how to do things while he was gone and now he needs to fit back into the picture. Danny and Jillian go to the gym for a workout. Danny is having a hard time adjusting to being away from the ranch. Jillian tells him the ranch is where they work to begin rebuilding their lives and now, where he is know is the best possible place he could be.
(Hmm, it just dawned on me. Last season’s final four was one pink, two brown and green team members. This season, the only difference is green is now blue. Not that that makes any difference – just love statistics and coincidences…)
The Marathon
Our final four will run their way back to the beach where the show began for the marathon. The are greeted at the starting line by Alison. She tells them this is the final challenge – 26.2 miles. The will be running through farmland, hills, hiking trails and ending up on the beach where it all started. She tells them that each of them crossing the finish line will get $10K for the charity of their choice. She then announces after the race they will have another weigh-in.
