Aerobic exercises such as walking, swimming and biking can even speed up your metabolism 4-6 hours after you stop. When you are at rest, muscles also burn calories.

2. Strength training will not speed up your metabolism, but it can help you build muscle mass. It can also help you burn fat. The more muscles mass you develop, the more calories it will burn. This will equate to faster weight loss. Some women fear that if they do weight training, they will bulk up. Women lack the hormones that men have so it is hard for them to bulk up. Women should also do weight training if they want to speed up their metabolism.

3. The ideal setup is to combine aerobic exercises with strength training. You can speed up your metabolism and gain muscle mass at the same time. If you do not have enough time to exercise, think again. You can space your workouts at various intervals of the day. You can do 10-15 minute workouts spaced through the day. You do not have to work out for 1-2 hours straight. The effect is the same.

4. Eat breakfast. Your body has been deprived of food for a long period of time so metabolism has slowed down. It only speeds back up when you eat breakfast. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Studies have shown that people who eat breakfast achieve more weight loss pounds than those who skip breakfast. Aim to eat a high fiber breakfast. It keeps you full longer. It takes longer for the body to digest high fiber foods so you will not be hungry soon after you eat.

5. Space your meals throughout the day. Eat 5-6 smaller meals a day rather than 3 large ones. This is to keep your metabolism running. You are also less likely to overeat from hunger. Your body knows that it has a steady source of food so less fat will be stored. Eat fewer high fat foods and lower calorie foods. Make sure you do not starve yourself as this can slow down your metabolism.

Anyone can accomplish his or her goal of increased weight loss pounds. They just have to stick to a diet plan and exercise their way to weight loss. An increased metabolism speeds up your weight loss.
