Green Tea Metabolism
Green tea has a lot of advantages. One of the most important effects of green tree is increased metabolism. Green tea helps to lose weight. It achieves this by mainly two ways. One of the ways is beta oxidation and the other one is thermogenesis. Beta oxidation is the process of burning of fat. Green tea helps to convert the stored fat in to energy. Thermogenesis is the process of increasing the metabolic rate of the body. This helps to burn fats faster.
The author of Anti-obesity effects of Green Tea by Dr. Swen Wolfram says that there have been nine trials human trials. Out of these nine studies, two of these studies were conducted using metabolic chamber. The metabolic chamber measures energy usage. Thus this provides credible insights into the effects of green tea metabolism. We will look here the effects of these two studies.
The first study was conducted by the University of Geneva under Dr. Dullo. This study was conducted upon ten men. They were given one of the following things three times a day. The things included an extract of green tea that consisted of 90 mg epigallocatechin (EGCG) and 50 mg of caffeine. The EGCG is the most active antioxidant that is present in the green tea.
The other things that were included were 50 mg of caffeine and Placebo. The researchers found that the green tea resulted in a 4% increase in energy usage in a day. The researchers came to the conclusion that green tea boosted the oxidation process, hence leading to increased metabolism.
The second study was called the Beltsville HNRC 2001 Study and it was conducted by Dr. William Rumpler. This study was conducted on twelve healthy adult males over a period of three days. In this study, the participants drank green tea instead of the extract. In this study, 270 gm of caffeinated water, a full strength oolong tea and a half strength oolong tea was used along with water. Scientists found out that energy was increased by about 3.4 % by caffeinated water. The full strength tea increased energy usage by 2.9%.
These two studies show that green tea has got the capability of increasing metabolism when compared to other beverages of tea and coffee. The caffeine in green tea however can cause some minor damages like insomnia, high blood pressure and anxiety. So it is always advisable to use green tea in accordance to certain norms.
For example, you should not drink more than 3-4 cups of tea in a day. Green tea metabolism can prove to have wonderful results if it is maintained within limit. But if it remains uncontrolled then it can have harmful effects. Therefore drink green tea but only as per the recommendations.
