Unhappy Feeling down!

Ok, everyone's seems so chipper on this board, and I'm really beginning to feel down. I was doing ok with eating earlier this week. Or at least I thought I was. That was UNTIL I realized my salads contained nearly 750 calories each, and that didn't include the other stuff I was consuming through the day. Unfortunately, I allowed that to get me down so I downed 3Little Debbie oatmeal cookies and a glass of milk one night, and four peanut butter sandwich cookies the next.

I have yet to start an exercise program, but I did have a salad for lunch today, and the other 1/2 of it for an after school snack. It consisted of lettuce, mushrooms, colliflower (sp?), tomatoes, 1/2 a serving of roast beef, 1boiled egg, 1/2 serving cheese, and cesar salad dressing. Now before I was using ranch dressing @ 120 calories per serving x's 2 because i like salad dressing so well. I've been able to cut those calories in 1/2 just from changing salad dressings alone. I ended up having a bowl of maccaroni and cheese for supper, 2 glasses of sweetened tea, and a 24 oz bottle of fully loaded Pepsi!!!! oh, did I mention the cupcake that was brought in at lunch for the Spirit Day today? ugh....

Now I'm sitting here feeling all down and in the dumps as if I've completely fallen off the wagon. However, I must admit I still have the fixings for salad in the fridge, and I do intend on having yet another salad tomorrow. That will give me salads for I think it's five days in a row now. (Which for me is pretty good.) I tend to get tired of eating the same thing over and over.

Anyway, I was wondering if there was anyone else out there feeling down too, or perhaps it's just me?

You will never be alone in that department. Good choice to change salad dressings. Experiment with a couple of new flavors that you might like and mix them with skim milk, fat free yougert or the nofat version. I find that the low cal dressing have odd tastes or textures. 1/2 as many calories is still better that a quarter pounder. I work in a school and there is a none stop stream of sweets and goodies. I do pretty well most days but every once in a while there is a day of eating! Popcorn helps with the munch part. We all struggle with our own demons and they win occasionaly. As long as we win at least 75% of the time, I that makes us above average!!

Hang in there!!

You are not alone. We all have our ups and downs.
You are doing alot of things right!
Give yourself a pat on the back
One of the first steps to change begin with awareness
All we can do is take small steps toward our goals.
I think the key is to get right back on, which it sounds like you are doing by eating salads
Hang in there

Hang in there!!

You are definately not alone. We all have our bad days. All we can do is start over fresh and make better choices next time.

One tip on the salad dressing. If you absolutely love ranch dressing as I do, when you have a salad request the salad dressing on the side or if you're at home pour a little bit in a small bowl, not directly on the salad. As you're eating it, dip your fork in the salad dressing as you're eating the salad. You still get the ranch taste but your salad isn't drenched in it. You will be surprised at how little of the ranch you consumed and enjoyed your salad just the same.

I use to abolutely love Ceaser salad dressing until I found out what it's made from. Now I won't touch the stuff. LOL

You're doing great!! Just remember we're here for you.

Smile We are with you...

Weaverdelooh - I understand how you feel. As many of the others have said - we all go through this - this is what makes us human! How did you find out how many calories were in your salad? I can't believe a salad can consist of so many calories - that is tough.

When you feel down - just click into the forum like you did. You will get lots of support and tips on how to feel better. I wish the best for you. I think that you are doing a great job so far - you have been able to detect what triggered your binge...you can take care of this by knowing what is happening with yourself at all times.

Keep your head up! We are all here for you!

get right back up

I have learned that if you fall off you just have to get back up and try again. Remember do not withhold everything you love or you are sitting yourself up for failure. If I know I am going to be somewhere tempting things are going to be served I try to drink extra water before hand so that I will not over do it but do enjoy a small amount. We all have bad days, try to keep busy.

weaverdelooh, dont' get to down on yourself. Everyone has bad days and gives into cravings, the important part is to jump right bakc on your plan as soon as possible. Don't have the attitude I've already messed it up for the whole day might as well mess it up the rest of the day. Then you are setting yourself up for failure. HAve a positive attitude and get right back on.

Couple hints on your salad, egg - use white part only, throw away the yolk(that part has the most calories), the dressing idea like susieolka said, use chicken chunks, tuna or turkey instead of roast beef.

If you want a cookie try having 1 instead of 3, take your bottle of pepsi and pour yourself a small glass and save the rest for the next day. That way you aren't missing out but you are limiting yourself.

All of us will fall down a bunch of times, just get back up and go on. Good luck to you

Well out of curiosity I found a web page that told me the calories for each ingredient in my salad. I just added everything up and came up with the 700+ calories... I think it's thecaloriecounter.com. I have it posted under web pages somewhere on the board.

Salads can be very miss leading. People think that if you eat a salad it is low cal but the dressings can be loaded with cals. But the good news is there are low cal low fat dressings that taste great. Just make sure you use them or if you dont have them available a trick i learned is get your dressing on the side dip your fork in the dressing them stab some salad you eat way less dressing but still get some taste.
Hang in there and make small goals to start with like maybe just drinking 64 oz of water a day and add goals as you feel stronger. Just keep at it. I love the saying "if you think you can or if you think you can't your right". Keep this in mind and keep a positive outlook by achieving small goals to start out with. Hang in there!!!! We are hear for you.
