So proud of doctor

Went to the doctor today for check up and blown away by what my doctor had to say. She told me how proud she was of my 60 pound weight loss since the first of the year. Then she asked if I had a magic number I was trying to get too. I told her no that I just wanted to wear regular clothing. She then said she was glad to hear that because so many people are putting so much on your BMI, and just because you have a normal BMI does not make you healthy. She went on to say that BMI does not look at your body frame, what type of exercise you do or anything like that. She states that she knows several personal trainers with lots of muscle with BMIs that make them obese. She then referred me to a new website " Healthy at Every Size".
She encouraged me not to get caught up in the number game and just keeping doing what makes you feel healthy. She also reminder me what we all already know, there is no such thing as a diet, it is a life style change. Just thought I would share some encouraging words from a good doctor. By the way she is a general practioner who does lots of research and education on eating disorders and often host groups for eating disorders. She is very anti-WLS. States it is just not healthy.

I agree with you that a lot of people who have healthy BMI's are not actually healthy. You can be the smallest person in the world and still be unhealthy. My trainer always gets peeved when they hire some anorexic looking girl to be a trainer. He gets mad because they aren't in shape at all, they look sickly. My trainer has a body fat percentage between 8-10% which is very low but he's in great shape.

I just wanted to say that I found this post very encouraging because eyes can be deceiving. I'm glad you had a good experience today and I also wanted to congratulate you on losing that 60 pounds!
