F.A.T. Chance

Ok, this is kind of a repeat of a previous thread, but there is a show, (can't remember the network --WE???) in which the actress Mo'Nique is the star, or host, or whatever. It's called F.A.T. Chance, and it's a plus sized beauty pagent. It was on awhile ago, and I have recently seen an advertisement for it, but I don't know if it's new shows, or just repeats

http://www.1monique.com/

Anyway, check out her site, and check out the show and some of the other things she's done.
What do you think of her? Is she a positive roll model for overweight women? Or is she strenghening a stereotype?
What about this show? Will it, or has it helped to end any racism for overweight people, or does it just reinforce these attitudes?

I really don't know what to think about her. In some ways -- great. Yeah, sure -- a woman can be a plus size, and still be gorgeous and sexy. On the other hand, I feel like she's advocating an unhealthy life-style.
Anyone ever seen this show? I haven't -- just a few commercials. It kinda made me uncomfortable. It seemed degrading, but then again, I think most beauty pagents are, in some ways.

I'm not really sure how I feel about this yet. I guess I'd have to see it in order to be a good critic.

On one hand, I think it's great they are getting out there and saying bigger women are beautiful too...but on the other hand, I do think it's promoting an unhealthy lifestyle.

Hi Muppet, I have seen the show it had it's moments. I did like it and I will see it again this year. (all new this year.) Well for Monique I truly love her because she is a strong postive role model for plus size women. She does exercise and she keeps it real. If you get a chance view some of her movies. Not one time did she try to diet to look thin. She is telling the world that plus size women can look and feel gorgeous just as well as the skinny women out there.

Yeah -- I do think Mo'Nique looks great, and she should feel sexy. I don't have any problem with a plus sized beauty pagent.
I had seen a commercial where she was talking about food -- I don't really know why -- but talking about how much she was going to eat. And it was really kind of disgusting -- all the desserts and junk-- but I don't know if it was like 'oh man, this is what I'd love to eat if I could eat whatever I want', or 'yeah, I'm going to go stuff myself with this stuff first chance I get.' After hearing what you've said Francine, my guess is it was the former. I admit, I have dreams about diving head first into a hot fudge sundae myself! MMMMM mmmmm
