BBW (big beautiful women)
Know what I'm talking about here? Those women you see who say "Hey -- here I am!! I am big and sexy, and have all these beautiful soft curves....."
Do you think that's a healthy attitude?
I mean, it's always nice to see someone confidant, someone who really does love themselves....And I don't think anyone who's over weight should feel bad about themselves, or feel like they need to apologize for being who they are either. But sometimes these women almost glorify it. They make it seem desireable. And I wonder if someone who really would like to lose weight and get healthy, might not change their minds and think 'Well, heck yeah, I'm a big beautiful woman too!'
The bottom line is being overweight isn't healthy. I do not believe that one-size fits-all. I don't believe you can never be 'too thin'. I think it's great when someone is comfortable with the body God gave them. But I'm not sure it's a good thing, to make it seem like being over-weight is great.
Eh -- I don't even know what I'm trying to say here. I guess women like this make me uncomfortable. It's just so important to do what's best for you-- what's best for your health. Even though these women might indeed be very beautiful, they probably aren't as healthy as they should be. I think a lot of health problems from being overweight take time to develop. You might be fine in your 20's and 30's, but start having problems in your 40's or 50's. Preventable problems. So I guess I think it's a bad thing, when a woman says 'Hey, I'm a big beautiful, sexy woman. This is the way I am. There's nothing I can do to change it, and I don't want to!'. If you are overweight, you are setting yourself up for a myriad of health problems. And that's just not sexy at all.

Very well said. I personally do not like hearing the words BBW. It has as much appeal to me as hearing XXL and Obese. There is nothing sexy about spilling out of your clothes or being a prime candidate for a heart attack, stroke, high blood pressure etc. My mother recently got an email forward in the mail entitled; "Krispy Kreme Calendar." It was the most horrific thing I have ever seen. I dont know if these woman realize it or not, but they are Morbidly Obese. That calendar may have made them feel sexy, but it was probably put out to the public by some sick freak to ostracize them. I am not going to lie; I was disgusted. However, these women need to be encouraged to lead healthier lives. They will feel better both physically and emotionally and not be the target of society. I know we are a look and judge first society; but classifying people by their weight is cruel. I am sure that some of these women are really great people and to be degraded like that is sickening. I am sorry to rant and rave, but I dont think anyone should be treated as less than human. They should also be able to pursue a healthy lifestyle; and not one that is surrounded by junk food.

I don't think they should be bragging about being big or overweight. It's a very unhealthy attitude. I do agree with them having confidence in themselves and a good outlook on life...but I don't feel like they should be promoting obesity.

Sigh -- why is it you guys can sum up what I'm trying to say in just a few sentences! I think that's exactly it Missy. It makes me uncomfortable because it seems like they are promoting it. I'm glad I'm not alone in feeling this way.
I'm not talking about plus sized models, or anything like that. Most of them really don't seem that overweight -- just a big body type. I think most of the plus sized models are probably about a 14, or 16.

I feel there are many BBW out there (my wife is one), but I hate to see BFW (Big Fat Women) or more appropriatly BOW (Big Obese Women). What I'm talking about is those women you see who are obviously not healthy, don't take care of themselves, eat a bucket of kfc to themselves etc etc. Non of you ladies fall into this category. I see women who have a bit of meat on their bones as BBW. I think the other term you may recognise is Amazonian. While I'm at it I like long dark hair and Goth Chick make up too.

I totally agree with what everyone has said here. I think plus size models always look good, but they are normally six foot tall to go with their weight, so they carry it alot better, i get annoyed when i see women on the telly who are morbidly obese saying they are happy, would you be happy? i know i wouldnt! I have nothing against some one being proud of who they are, it is their choice, i do however have a problem with men who have a fixation on obese women, there was a documentery on ages ago about this, i was utterly disgusted, there was a man on there who fed his wife up just so she would stay big, he even pushed her around in a wheel chair, i was utterly appalled by this, he even said that if she was to lose even a pound he would leave her!!!!
my hubby loves curvy women, but he would never want me to get so obese it would effect my life,

I think I saw the same documentary. There are some sick people around. That guy was mixing crash weight gain powder into her food. He should have been done for assault.

I hate to be the only one to take the other side, but I'm going to. I think these women are a positive influence on society. I don't think they so much stand for "Obesity is great" as much as they present a different viewpoint that "People don't have to be Kate Moss thin to be beautiful". I think this is only appropriate when reactionary to people such as described in the "attitudes" topic who say awful things about fat people and those catty people we all know who sit in gyms and judge people on their looks.
I admire the confidence these women have in themselves, whatever their size. Young girls need role models who are happy with themselves no matter what their weight rather than role models who go in for lipo and plastic surgery every week and teach girls that looks are everything. Obesity isn't healthy, but nor is the constant pressure to be a stick figure with plastic augmentations.

I have to agree with misfit...there is a big difference in BFW and BBW. The BBW are the ones who live their life to their fullest and just happen to be Big Women. The BFW are the ones who are lazy and do not live their life to their fullest. You can see a difference in their attitudes as well as their physical appearance...BBW usually dress nice and BFW usually dress sloppy.
