Talking My story?

I am Nicky, I am 34 years old. Married my husband (and best friend) Tom on Feb 17, 2001. We met through an ad in our local newspaper.
When I graduated high school I weighed about 140 pounds. When I married Tom I was up to about 240 pounds. Now after almost 5 years of marriage my weigh creeped up to 315 pounds
I figure I have gained on average about 10 pounds a year since highschool - and it seems it has gone on very gradually cause I really hadn't noticed
I bought a pair of slacks through a catalog and I bought a size 30 figuring that was my size. When I received them, I tried them on and they didn't fit. So I sent them back and bought a size 32 and when I received them, they didn't fit.
I refused to buy a size bigger than a 32 OMG I couldn't believe they didn't fit. I cried and I cried and then I, and my husband, decided it was time to make the choice to change our lifestyle for good and get healthy for ourselves and so we will be around for eachother. (My husband also has a lot of weight to lose)
So here we are. In the 3 weeks since we made the decision I have lost 10.5 pounds and Tom has lost 17. Oh BTW the pants fit now

I look forward to getting to know you and supporting you all on this journey to be a healthier life

Nicky

I know what you mean by not wanting to go a size higher. I am the same way - at this time all the jeans in my closet are size 20 - they are tight but I am NOT going to buy a size bigger. I am going to lose the weight and just buy clothes as I lose weight.

CONGRATS to both you and your husband! That is excellent! How have you changed your lifestyle within the 3 weeks that have passed?

Changing Lifestyle?

We invested in a second recumbant bike and we have them side by side in the bedroom and we ride together. We thought that way we could push each other. Tom can't ride as long as me, but I think because we are riding together he is pushing himself harder.

We changed the way we eat... watching portions, counting points (we are doing Weight watchers), salt intake,

I quit drinking regular Pepsi and my husband has cut down on his intake of diet pops.

We part further from stores so we have to walk further. We take the dog for walks instead of just always putting him out on his chain in the backyard.

We still have desert every night - - it's just not a big bowl of full fat ice cream anymore.

those are the little changes we have done in the last 3 weeks

Nicky

I think it is great that you and Tom workout together. My husband is anxious on having his surgery and recovering so that he can join me. He has a torn ACL and damaged Meniscus.

Keep up the good work.

Patty Ann, I like how you broke up you weightloss into needing to lose 1.38 lbs a week to meet your longterm goal. When you put it like that, it doesn't seem so bad after all.
