McDonalds Calories
Has anyone noticed the calorie counts that McDonalds is putting on their food? I got the kids chicken nugget meal yesterday (they are a lot different than what I remember, I haven't ordered them since I was probably 9) and for whatever reason I was looking at the box, and all the nutritional information is on the bottom of the box. It was 170 calories for the 4 nuggets and I know the small french fries are 250, so it was 420 cals for a fast food meal. Next time I might even swap the fries for the apple dippers (100 calories with the caramel dip) so only 270 calories total (less than the fruit and walnut salad, 310 cals).

That meal you listed also had like 23 grams of fat in one meal! ACK! I would stay away from McDonalds. I had a huge obsession with their quarter pounders and I haven't been to McD's in over 2 months now. I am very happy about that.
I found this chart online too with nutritional info...

I'm aware of how many grams of fat it has, call me weak, but there are days when I just need "something like that" and for me, it really satisfies the craving, instead of doing what I traditionally do and deprive myself and then binge on something worse later in the week.

I think we all have days where we need something that we're really craving. I did eat some french fries the other day and they were pretty darn good. Just doesn't mean I can eat them everyday.
My favorite thing at McDonald's right now is the fruit & yogurt parfait. So yummy!!

It just sounds like what you are currently doing isn't helping you lose weight. Isn't it things like fast food etc that got you to this point in the first place? People always have an excuse for doing the things they do. I'm not saying I don't "screw up" once in awhile myself...but I don't try to come up with excuses making it okay to eat unhealthy.
I have been told not to eat fast food of any kind UNTIL I reach my goal, and UNTIL my metabolism is on the right track. By eating healthy some days, and eating unhealthy other days...your weight is on a roller coaster. Up and down.
Try making your goal only to eat fast food once a month..instead of once a week, you might see some better results

I'm sorry, but I took this a little personal, you may have directed this to someone else who has posted in this tread but no one here has said that they eat fast food EVERY week.
Personally, I did not "screw up" by eating fast food because I stayed within my calorie goal, I made a conscience decision to have fast food that day. I planned 3 days in advance, that I would give myself that day to eat out because I was going into Atlanta with a group of friends. And in the past week and a half I have lost 6 pounds, so obviously what I'm doing is helping me lose weight. And fast food is not what got me to my current weight, home-cooked mac'n cheese is what got me here.

Sorry if you took it offensive. The majority of the post wasn't really directed at anyone, just the very last sentence was more towards you.
Maybe I read it wrong, to me it just sounded like every time you get a little craving you fulfill it with junk. I just thought that was how we all became overweight in the first place.
I just found 23 grams of fat in one meal a tad scary too, since it is recommended not to eat over 40-50g in a day. It was a lot of fat for one meal...I could only see eating that meal if I were to starve myself the rest of the day, and starving is not good for my metabolism.
Again, sorry if I came on a bit harsh, that was not my intentions.

I think the only constant --- the only thing that we know has to be done in order to lose weight -- is that we have to burn more calories than we eat.
I think every single one of us has a different method of doing this. Some of us haven't quite figured out what's best for us yet, but on this journey, we all learn as we go.
Some of us need to be very regimented. It's easier to never have some foods, than to have to try and limit them. I have heard people do this with chocolate. They don't eat it at all -- ever. If they do, they just want more.
But I know there are others who can only have that occasional 'treat', whether it be candy, or french fries, or soda.
It's all about knowing who you are. I actually think I should be a 'no -- never' type of person. But I really want to be an 'occasional treat' type of person.
I'm working on it.
I appreciate Missy's no nonsense approach. Her words were just what I needed to hear. I tend to make too many excuses. "Well, it won't hurt me, just this once'. ' it's only a little bit...' that kind of stuff.
My problem is, if I did eat a chicken nugget happy meal, with the apple slices, I would still be hungry! I think it sounds like a good choice, for a fast food meal, but I know I would want more. I wish I could do that once in awhile, and be satisfied!
I guess that's another reason I love subway. You get a big sandwich! It takes awhile to eat it, and I do feel satisfied. Even a small burger and fries at McDonalds leaves me hungry. I'm just better off staying out of those places as much as possible!
Someone mentioned the fruit and yogurt parfait. I love these! But they only make them in the snack size now? I think that's good, because on 'Supersize Me', he said one of those with the granola toppiing is really a lot of calories and fat ( sorry, can't remember the exact number). I like to make these at home -- using frozen blueberries, and putting grape nuts on top, for that crunch.
