Faster Fat Burning
At my gym, my trainer has told me to start taking supplements to help make me burn fat even faster than I am right now....I was wondering if anyone has ever tried this ...because I am a bit iffy on the ephedrine part of it.
Ephedrine--take 3 pills of 8mg
Caffeine--1 pill of 200mg
Children's Aspirin--1 pill
I am to take it for the first 4 weeks just before breakfast....then after the 4 weeks take it before breakfast and lunch.
And I am to alternate this technique every 8 weeks...so 8 weeks on it....8 weeks off it.

I thought Ephedrine wasn't good for your heart, is that why you take the asprine?

Dont Do It
Missy I think your trainer needs a good swift kick in his well toned head... for telling you to put this **** in your body to burn faster....you seem to be a fairly knowledgeable girl.. how could you even think to do this...all these thing do the Ephedrine. and the Caffeine is make you more hyper basically so you are more active cause you cant sit still..... the aspirin is for heart problems which is exactly what you will get from taking ephedrine....that is why they have taken it off the market in most all diet products.... you should know that there isn't a quick fix.. you want to burn faster.. go to a health food store and I don't mean GNC.. a real certified health food store and ask about the natural herbs that will help your body metabolize your calories at a more efficient pace...Please at the very least talk to a doctor about this before you even think about dong it. Ephedrine can really damage your heart and can cause Death.
Sorry so harsh about this subject but don't wanna see you hurt...just trying to lose faster.

I would really worry about taking that combination just to burn fat faster - I really think you'd be better off taking it slow and steady rather than risking it. Ephedrine is banned from sale here in the UK and it just seems really dangerous to me.
I know that caffeine is good for better performance in the gym but I was talking to someone who does a lot of sports and they told me you'd be just as well drinking a cup of strong coffee and plenty of water before exercising.
Take care of yourself and if you are worried about anything, please make sure you check it out fully before trying it!

Hi Missy,
No offense to your trainer but....he/she is off their rocker. Why would you put that kind of a drug cocktail in your body?? Caffeine is already not good for weight loss, and we already know Ephedra's track record for making people sick or killing them. The last part of the equation, I have no clue about. That person should be ashamed to wear the title, "trainer." They of all people should NOT be pushing "faster ways to lose weight." Havent we yet learned that there is no such thing as a quick fix in the weight loss industry? Gastric Bypass doesnt even take right away. My suggestion to you is to walk (no run) to a new gym or trainer that has your best interests at heart, and not some crazy quick fix. Just because a trainer suggests something, doesnt mean it is right.

Hi Missy,
You are obviously questioning this since you asked us about it. If I had a trainer that told me to take that combination I would be finding a new trainer. I am sure the reason for the baby aspirin is because the ephedra can cause problems with your heart. You are doing great with everything you are doing so far. Do look for a quick fix to try to lose weight faster. I have heard that the slower you lose weight the better chance you have keeping it off in the long run. I would even consider talking to the management at your gym and let them know what your trainer suggested. And if you are still considering taking this combination becuase you want a quick fix... talk to your doctor and let your doc prescribe something safer.
But remember, you are doing great without it... just keep doing what you are doing and eventually you will find yourself at your goal weight.

Missy,
I'm not going to say yes or no to your query. I think you should do some research to know that the decision you make for your body is the right one. Look at information not from the companies who sell the drugs and not from diet magazines and such, but look at what clinical data exists today. Here are a few links because I decided to look into it before offering advice on anything that clearly is as complicated and possibly misrepresented. Often what is "known" is the public's view is completely wrong, especially when it comes to health recommendations. So here is some more scientific information for you to consider:
NIH Site, Office of Dietary Suppliments Overview of Ephedra Studies
Study Info: March 2003
I would definately say consult an informed doctor (maybe a nutritionalist, but probably not just a regular family practice doctor) because it seems the problems associated with this product are interactions with other health conditions you may already have and also dosage amounts.

I just wanted to say thank you for all of your input. I am considering each and every one of your comments in making my decision. I have taken ephedrine in the past and it seemed to work for me before...I'm just not sure I want to lose my weight this way.
Ephedrine is legal in Canada..and I think the people that have died from it in the past were taking way too much of a dosage. I'm guessing that's why he wants me to do 8 weeks on and 8 weeks off of it...so I don't become addicted to it.
I haven't made my choice yet..but I definately don't want to take any health risks.
