The cost of eating healthy

This morning my hubby and I went grocery shopping for the week. Our bill came to $140 :eek (pre-eating healthy our bill usually was about $70-80) We see the cart filled with all the lettuces and fruits and veggies, oatmeal, brown rice, whole wheat this and low carb that... it sure adds up fast.
We got in the car and started talking about and my husband said that pre eating healthy we actually spent more than that... I didn't understand. He said we spent $70-80 at the store, but then we spent another $100 or so eating out 4 times during the week.
Just food for thought when you think you're spending more for eating healthier.

I know, I was thinking the same thing. My grocery bill has gone up so much, with all this healty food. But without going to burger king and mcdonalds for a family of four we are actully saving in the long run. But it sure does irritate you to see the brocery bill double.

Well, I really didn't eat out before. I was just making a lot of bad choices at the grocery store. I noticed that my bill is higher and I have to be careful buying all of the fresh produce so that I use it up before it expires. But, like you said, it is worth the extra money if I lose the weight.

We also realized today that we are saving money buy not buying as much pop. I use to stop at the gas station ever morning and buy a 32 oz (actually usually larger when they offered it) Pepsi and would buy at least 2 during the day at work. And my hubby in his sales job driving around would stop at McDonalds a minimum of 3 times a day for a large pop. We added up what would were spending a year if we stopped 5 times a week (which usually we did - sometimes more in the summer months). it came to almost $1700.00 :eek Can you believe that.
I expect a pretty nice vacation for the $1700.00 we're saving this year LOL

It is amazing what we used to spend on sodas! I could drink 6 Dr Peppers a day. That works out to about $26 a week, $1352 a year (for one person!) Thank goodness water is cheap!

Talking H2ooooo

Hi Widdle,

Unfortunatly I beg to differ. Have you seen the price of bottled water?? I usually stick to Aquafina, Deja Blue, Dannon, Evian, or Giant Eagle Brand. Fiji is almost twice what those are. But the bottle scenery is nice to look at. These days, if it says healthy you will pay more for it. Even though there is "less stuff" in it. Was having this conversation with somebody the other day. Guess less does cost more!

Smile Horrible Prices

I could not believe how much I spent buying healthy food. Atkins products are way over priced if you ask me. As are the weight watcher dinners, and the South Beach as well.
Fruits and Veggies have always been over priced in my opinion. I cannot wait until spring when I can start my own garden...and when fall arrives, I'll be out picking apples, strawberrys, and anything else I can get my paws on. (With any luck, by fall I'll be about 40lbs lighter ) It's a lot cheaper to go to these farms and pick your own fruit. Also, I am not sure if y'all have farmer markets, but watch for those as well. You pay about half of what you would in a store.

Hi Carrie,
I don't buy bottled water so for me water is cheap. Yes buying bottled water would get more expensive tan all the Pepsis I use to buy
