What's your trigger?
I noticed today that I wasn't eating properly and I was wondering what my "trigger" was to the problem. My trigger was not being properly prepared. I.E., I didn't have a salad made for lunch because I needed to go grocery shopping, so I settled for chicken nuggets, nachos and cheese, green beans, and pudding. Then this afternoon while I was out grocery shopping the munchies hit and I grabbed some sugar babies. I notice my problem is not being prepared for when I got hungry. Thankfully I did have my water today though! Yeah for me!!!!!!!
So, what's your trigger? What's causing you to fall off of the wagon? I'm thinking that if we can recognize our triggers we can prevent them from being set off in the first place.
Tell me what you think.

I think I do better when I'm prepared too. If I think ahead about what I'm going to eat for the day, I'm more likely to stick to it.
What really makes me fall off the wagon though, is when I let myself get too hungry. If I'm really starving, I eat whatever is most convienent, and I eat is fast. Way too fast, and end up eating so much more than I need, because I am trying to get that 'full' feeling. I know it takes awhle for your brain to catch up with your stomach, and I tend to just keep eating till it does. Then I feel miserable.
I try to combat this, by not letting it happen in the first place, and by realizing what I'm doing, and making a conscience effort to stop. Slow down -- drink a big glass of water. But it's not easy. It's such a strong urge, to eat and eat and eat. But, I'm trying, and I'm doing better.

Free time is my trigger, whether at school or at home, if I do not stay busy or if I do not have healthy choices available then I will make a poor choice.

Seeing other people eat -especially when they eat bad stuff. I have to have an alternative or I'll convince myself it is okay to join in.

I have noticed that when I become angry I want to eat. I have been doing very well though - I workout now when I become angry. I can talk myself down from being angry. I was one who would eat anything and everything b/c I was bored - I am no longer doing this either. I will lay down to relax or I will pick up a magazine. I also when get into the forum and read the posts for motivation and support. I have also seen that if I'm not prepared then I will cheat...I have learned to prepare a baggie when I leave the house if I know that I will be gone for longer than two hours.

Not being prepared is definately a trigger for me too...
Most mornings before work I grab the piece of crustless quiche for breakfast, my baggie of lettuce, chicken breast, cucumber and tomato for lunch, my snack bag of 42 pretzel sticks for a snack and a couple pieces of fruit.
This week, with our aunt passing away on Saturday, I didn't make my quiche, didn't grill up chicken breasts, didn't cut up lettuces and cucumbers and tomatos and didn't count out my pretzels and most days I haven't filled my bottle (that holds 8 - 8oz glasses of water) with ice and water...
So on days like today... I did have scrambled egg whites for breakfast, but I have no water here so I have had 2 pepsis, I have no fat free pretzels, so I bought a bag of Cheetoes out of the vending machine, have no lunch packed, so either I go out or I hit the vending machine again.... Yep I would say not being prepared is definately my downfall

Aw, sorry you're having such a hard day today -and I'm sorry for your loss in the family.
I forgot my regular snack (Ham, these 30 cal/slice cheese product and crispbread) but I do have something to eat. I have some yogurt and fruit extra I brought up here luckily. Not as filling, but hopefully it will keep me full long enough to get home and eat something better for me. I go out of my way not to walk in from of Vending machines these days. I also drink lots of hot tea to keep myself out of the Dr. Pepper. Tea isn't as good as plain water, but it's better than a Dr. Pepper for sure.
Patty-Ann: I have anger/mood problems too when I'm hungry. I know why I'm angry -I'm exceptionally tired/hungry/sore/some combo of all of that. I really have to be careful not to let it get to me but recognize that it's just hunger so I don't take it out on people around me. Odd the way our bodies work isn't it.

My biggest trigger is the scale. Everyone's worst enemy! *LOL* If I don't see the numbers going down on the scale, I feel like the work I am doing isn't helping me..so I sometimes ask why I bother to try.
I'm glad I have my boyfriend here to help me when I fall though, I don't know what I would do without him!
