I expect a pretty nice vacation for the $1700.00 we're saving this year LOL

It is more expensive to eat good and I think that is also why america has such a weight problem it is cheaper to eat crap. LOL I agree when you add up how much you would be spending on snack stuff through out the day such as pop, chips, candy bars, whatever it really adds up and that usually is eliminated or goes way down when your eating healthy. So atleast that helps make it easier to pay the grocery bill.

Pepsi?
I cant believe how much I was spending on Diet Pepsi. Those numbers really hit home. Do we really spend that much on just soda alone? Bet if Americans backed off of pizza, soda, and krispy kremes; the economy would collapse. I have been loading up on frozen veggies. You can eat a large amount of them, they last forever, and are easy to make for people like me who hate to cook. Less than 2 dollars a package depending on the brand. It blows my mind how much I spent on bread, pizza, cookies etc. If I am going to spend money, it should be on something that makes me look and feel good about myself, not like crap and ruin my skin to boot. Keep saying NO girls! It will all pay off in the end.

I totally agree. I guess it goes back to the old saying "you get what you pay for".

We got in the car and started talking about and my husband said that pre eating healthy we actually spent more than that... I didn't understand. He said we spent $70-80 at the store, but then we spent another $100 or so eating out 4 times during the week.
Just food for thought when you think you're spending more for eating healthier.

My boyfriend and I go grocery shopping every Saturday and spend $120 a week. It definately costs way more to eat healthy, but it's so worth it in the long run.

Around here it seems as if the grocery bill is increasing no matter what! Just Saturday I noticed sugar had gone up 30 cents for a 5 lb bag. That was enough reason for me to leave the sugar sit on the shelf. Besides, I generally use it for my husband's tea, and cool-ade for the kids. They don't need all the coolade anyway!

I'm curious, has anyone considred rewarding themself every time they drink a glass of water? I.e. every time you drink water throw the 50 cents you would have dropped in the pop machine into a drawer / cup / bank account etc... I mean actually put it in a different place other than with your general money. This way, you'll have a financial reward in the end that you aren't accidentally spending somewhere else.

I don't like plain ole tap water, so in the past would have spent a lot on bottled water. Luckily for me though I've not long started a new job with a great filtered water chiller in a central location so I've started changing my habits. The new job also means about 6 hours of walking a day and that's sure helping things along.

Lol Theresa "you get what you pay for"! Well I have put quite a large downpayment on a new trim body-lol. I can't believe how much money I have spent this month between the treadmill, healthy food and new clothes. But I am taking a deep breath and will be more sensible about my spending next month. I am seeing good steady progress in my weight loss, but have to get my instant gratification somewhere-so I go shopping!
I like what Weaver said about putting that 50 cents in a cup every time you drink a glass of water. Maybe if all of my money is in the cup, I won't go shopping as often? Cool.

I get Ozarka water delivered to my house. It is pretty cheap, if you have a friend refer you, both you and the friend get $25 off your next bill. I got the crock instead of the high speed hot/cold dispenser so it was only $30 and I get to keep that. Each month I only spend about $20 on my water and I always have enough!

I'm lucky - our tap water doesn't taste bad and the company I work for has a reverse osmosis system so that water tastes really good.
weaverdelooh - I think it's a great idea to throw money in a jar that I would normally spend in the pop machine. Last time I lost weight I put money in a jar for the amount of weight I lost.. it added up. But then I spent the money and agined the weight back
