Why is everyone so soft?
I get the impression quite a few people on here don't want to do the work it takes to lose the weight. I received this impression from the Favourite Trainer board. Most of us are overweight for a reason...and why do most people try to take the easy way? Jillian may be a hard-ass but she does an amazing job. People who want to lose weight quickly need someone like her to force and push them. Why take the easy way and train with someone who isn't hard on you? You learn nothing that way. My trainer is a lot like Jillian and I love him...I have never felt so good about working out before.
He doesn't let me give up...he doesn't let me take a break..he keeps pushing like a drill sargeant and I need that or I will fail like I have many times before.
People need to stop taking the easy way..that's what led you to this point in the first place.

I think we all have the same intentions here, to lose weight and get healthy and people are different. It's the same way as it is with any realtionship whether it's a friend or a spouse and even a trainer.
There's those that need to be yelled and cussed at to push them and then there are those that need somebody to lift them up and encourage them in a more gentle manner. I don't see anything wrong with either way, it's just a matter of opinion.

I guess so. To me, I just don't see how most would benefit from a trainer who goes easy on them. When I'm with my trainer I want him to push me to the max and MAKE me do it.
I know my trainer gets mad at people who give up when they are out of breath or tired and calls them energy leeches..he's even had people walk out on him....but if you are going to pay the money for a trainer, you have to be willing to do the necessary work.

Remember the show chose Bob to be a trainer, recognizing his methods do work too. There's a significant difference between "soft" and respectful. Bob doesn't have to belittle people to get them to exercise. I don't see his teams slacking off, they are exercising and working through it with encouragement.
Exercise is negative enough of an activity for many already without someone making them feel worse and yelling at them. Remember, lots of people turn to eating when they feel bad, so Jillian's harsh methods would just cause some to turn to food for comfort. To each their own, and if Jillian's style works for you great. But please don't judge the other posters here just because they aren't motivated in the same ways that you are.

I was necessarily judging anyone, it just sounded like everyone wanted to lose weight but weren't willing to put up with the battle. I was just stating that taking the easy way out isn't always the answer.
I'm sorry if I offended anyone by my statements.

I think for me it's the matter of her being hard nosed doesn't appear to be supportive. (Not that she's not, that's just my own p.o.v.) To me it's more degrading than encouraging.

I think there's a difference in being hard on someone and acting like a blankety blank blank toward them. lol, kind of like parenting you can be strict but loving, or you can be cruel.
