size 0

As usual, the start of a new year brings about many ads for diet and exercise products. I try my best to ignore them, because I believe they are simply preying on desperate people. There is no desire to help, or even address the problem, but just sell products to people who are willing to try anything... and pay anything, and just in case... just in case... this really works... they'll give it a shot.
But that's not what this is about, not really. I saw a product called Size 0. I have no idea what it is, or how they claim it works. It looks like a pill or supplement of some kind. So I already have a problem with it.
I also have a problem with the name. Size 0.
I guess this is the new standard. Nothing -- being a zero.
My daughter wears a size 0. She is 12, on the thin side and just starting to develop some curves. Is she not supposed to get any bigger?
I'm thankful she pays no attention to this kind of stuff, but how many girls do? How many pre-teens are wearing (gasp) size 3, or even horror of horrors, size 5, and think they are too big.
I'm disgusted because it makes it seem like every woman's ideal is to be a size 0. That should be our goal -- the ultimate.
This is kind of a silly thing, but it caught my eye in an advertisement. It saddens me. Shame on all these charlatans who are trying to profit from other people's pain, and probably encouraging eating disorders at the same time.
