Have you ever noticed?

Have you ever noticed that Junk food seems to cost LESS than the healthier versions?? Or is this just where I go shopping. No wonder why society goes to Taco Bell etc. It's fast, easy to get, no cleanup, and it's DIRT CHEAP!! Grocery stores will charge an arm and a leg for a pint of Blueberries and a pound of Turkey Breast; but you can get a bag of frozen burritos cheaper. They sell the Family Size boxes of the Pepperoni Hot Pockets; but none of the Lean Pockets with the Cheese and Broccoli. Orange juice is pricey, and so is cereal. Check out the smoothie prices too. No wonder the breakfast hour at McDonalds and Burger King is so popular. In the checkout lanes; candybars are always on sale; like 2 for a dollar. But the healthy bars are never on sale.

Grocery stores need to prioritize here. Healthy customers are happy customers. Happy customers bring in more business. High prices on "healthy food" is a huge contributer to the "Obesity" Epidemic in the world. I know everyone doesnt want to eat healthy all the time; but even a little here and there wouldnt hurt.

That is absolutely the case. I'm not sure there's much the grocery stores can do about it. One time a grocery store did a 'fruit of the week' thing, or something like that for the kids. They could try a certain fruit for free, and it was also on sale that week. I thought that was a really good promotion. It got us all to try new fruits, and encouraged us to eat more.
There's a reason why junk is so cheap -- it's JUNK!
Like with most things in life, you get what you pay for.

FrugalSue is on a distinguished road
I've noticed these disparities, too, and it's costing me more for food now that I'm eating healthier. In fact, I can hardly call myself "Frugal Sue" anymore--which was a name I chose for my presence on the Internet back when I used to home school and write a lot about how to raise kids frugally. But I really feel it's worthwhile to buy better quality food. And I save by concentrating on what's in season. Lately, for example, we've been getting some great pesticide-free asparagus from Yakima, Washington.
