From a little rock

Hi, I am Frances I am 39 years old and morbidly obese. I have had to suffer all my life of dieting, exercising even so far as to have the Gastric Bypass surgery done 8 years ago, and whatever it took and the weight still has not come off, it just feels the need to stick to me . I am a beautiful person on the inside, but not many people give me the chance to show that, they look at the outside and turn the other way.

I am an active person (or try to be)..... I enjoy being outside, I enjoying going to the beach, walking through the malls (then what woman doesn't enjoy shopping), I enjoying trying things that I think make it more difficult for someone my size just so I can saw that I at least tried it and to show other obese people that YOU CAN do whatever you have your mind set out to do.

I wish society as a whole would START to realize that NO ONE is perfect and we obviously don't live in a perfect world, but some people have their faults where you can see them others are hidden behind their faces.

When I first saw the first show I was horrified because I thought OH MY the are going to humiliate these obese people and how unfair that was, then I eneded up seeing the ending show and was amazed when I saw the transformations of all those people and how wonderful they looked. I did audition for the show on January 10, in Boston, MA and was absolutely amazed at how many larger sized people were there and was hoping to get a call, however I knew deep down I wouldn't because we had someone who was rude and discriminatory in our group.

I hope that maybe I can get some inspiration from others in here that are going through the same as me

I hope you make the show, but if you don't, hopefully you can still make healthy choices and continue to work for your goal.

The biggest loser show doesn't do enough to focus on the diet and the health benefits of getting your weight down. I'm obese myself, but I'm starting to lose weight, not at the same rate as the contestents, but I'm losing. I don't care what I'll look like when I'm thin, I just care that I'll be alive and kicking in 10 years...

Keep fighting!

But it does do that! They make it quite clear that that work the people go through is a physical and mental change. They have doctors at the Ranch who work with them. And like all "reality tv," there are whole sections we never see. The "boring" stuff like Doctor and educational sessions will never make it on the air.

They do talk about the health somewhat, but the majority of the show is based on the exercise and the challanges. I would like to see more information about what the contestants are eating, how often, and what information they are using. I suppose that wouldn't make good TV, so they only mention it, or perhaps there is a liablility because everyone is different, and they don't want to encourage people to do this without doctor supervision.

The book has a lot of diet/health related information, but for those that don't have the book, the tv show comes up a bit short in diet education. Just my humble opinion...

Good Luck

Beauty comes from the inside and shines thru the outside. I wish you luck in losing the weight and finding the program that works for you! Start slowly when starting over again...if you do too much all at once you will quickly lose motivation and crash...if you need someone to help push you and encourage you I'm sure you can find it here....motivators....support....

Good luck!!

I know what you mean about the showing not showing everything. Liek the engaged couple edition, when they came home to stocked kitchens I tried so hard to see what stuff they had in the cupboards, but you couldn't make it out.

Smile Nutritionist

Hi everyone,
I was reading your postings about wanting more information on the types of food TBL use. Have you thought about visiting with a nutritionist? My sister belongs to a gym and they had a nutritionist visit last week. She went over all types of foods and gave me some really great ideas. Alot of grocery stores now have them on staff so that could be a place to check out also.

Hi Frances, I'm mia and I'm 42. Of course I am also overweight. Last year I moved out of the city into a home on a wooded lot. I started exploring the trails and noticed it was a workout. I also started walking every morning with my mother. She makes Jillian look like a kitten! I almost passed out she pushed so hard. I lost 30 lbs in 6 months that way. We stopped in October and will start again in April. I still ate the same foodsby the way.

This year my goal is 40 more. I brought exercize equipment into the living room and make effort several times a day to use it. My goal is to burn at least 500 cals a day and more if there is time. (700cals is great!)

If I loose 8 more I will come out of the Obese category and go into the overweight category. If I take all 40 off I will be at the highest weight in the normal range. That's my goal for 2006.

I wouldn't believe I could do it if I didn't see it done on Biggest Looser. They looked like me in the beginning. I want to look like them in the end!
Are we doing this together Frances? ~ mia

Wow! I enjoyed reading your post. I agree that when the first season came out, having Biggest "LOSER" in the title did not sound good! When the season started, I felt a little embarrassed for the people having to get weighed in those little outfits, and having to get dunking in the body fat measuring pool! As the season continued, I became absolutely hooked! I really believe that we can do this, and we are definitely here for you Mia! Sorry to hear that you had a bad experience in the auditions.

The show does have a well rounded approach. I really appreciated the fact that on this week's show, the doctor came in to tell the 16 year old that she was at risk for adult onset diabetes. I would also like to be able to hear more about the doctor's consultations and some of the therapy that the contestants go through. I realize that it is all very private, but it would also be very inspiring for us as well.
