Jules -- that made me laugh. I completetly understand where you're coming from. I no longer buy my husband any presents. Well, maybe a few, but the only things I will get him have to have Iowa State on them. That's all he ever gets for presents from anyone -- it's all he enjoys getting. He's told me not to waste the money -- not being sacrificial or anything, but more in the sense that, 'you won't get anything I really want anyway, so don't spend the money' . No -- he didn't actually say that, but his meaning was clear. I once got him socks -- white crew socks--- and, swear to God -- he took them back. After that, I said "no more'. And I hate it, because I don't like the example it sets for our kids. But it's NO FUN to shop for people like that!

 Yesh.....
Whatever happened to; "It's the thought that counts, thank you for thinking of me honey." I would kill to have a guy who would take the time to think of me; no matter what the gift was. I wouldnt think of being that ungrateful.

To open up a can of worms regarding the "picky guys posts", you could turn the argument around, that a guy knows what he wants and where to get it (and usually how much it is too), whereas the ladies spend hours shopping but buy nothing
<stands back and awaits barrage of feminist responses>
To be honest though when you drop hints for months such as "I'd really like the star wars dvd box set for Xmas" and get aftershave and socks you can imagine the dissapointment

I agree with you, Phil, it's good to be really specific about what you want. My husband and I decided quite a few years ago that there's no point wasting time, money, energy, emotions, etc. over gifts that neither of us really wants. So we are now very specific about telling the other what to buy us.
Every once in a while, one of us will surprise the other with something that just felt like the right thing to buy...but mostly we decide on it together these days.
This year neither of us wants or needs much stuff. So we're going to take the money we would have spent on gifts and use it to create a memory, like by taking a long weekend trip to a nice resort.
Sue who has FINALLY lost that 20th pound

That's what my bf and I do as well...we each make a list of different gift ideas we really want, and the other can pick and choose what to buy from it. That way we always get what we want.

Maybe I am old fashioned; or maybe it's because I have been single for too darn long....But I think that any gift should be acceptable and cherished; as long as it comes from the heart. I'd just be happy that somebody took the time to think about me period.
Damn I really need a bf. This is downright pathetic.

Carrie don't be so down hearted. You don't need a guy to make you feel whole. And besides we all love you to bits.
