Ok folks, I'm back out the store, and my water is actually on my shopping list this week. I did ok earlier today, I had a large salad for lunch, but I would consider the calorie intake much smaller. Lettuce, mushrooms, 1 boiled egg, carrots, tomatoes, mazzarella cheese, and cesar salad dressing. One thing I forgot to add was the colliflower, which REALLY seems to be a filler for me. It fills me up sooooo quickly.
I noticed this evening I wasn't "prepared" though for when I got hungry again. I have no salad made here at home, and getting very hungry and wanting something to eat NOW, I downed a bowl of Johny Marzetti, but I'm ok with it because that will be the worse thing I have today. I'm just going to have to get into a routine of being "prepared", that way when the hunger does hit, I have healthy options available. Currently, there are no carrots, mushrooms, lettuce, or many healthy options available in the fridge.
My plan is to buy the produce required, get my chicken prepared this weekend so all I have to do is pop it in the microwave when I'm hungry. I'm convinced as long as I give myself a healthy option, I'll chose it over the other stuff. It's just a matter of making sure the healthy stuff is there!

Being prepared is the best way to handle it. That way there aren't "choices" cuz you already made them ahead of time. Makes life easier too. I just got back from the store and bought a bunch of lean cuisine's for my lunches to keep me away from the food at the bar i tend at. Helps alot. Plus I keep some on hand for a quick meal.

Weaver
Don't be down, we all have our moments! Mine was yesterday, I was so depressed when I got home!
I am a teacher and we had a staff development day where we attended a workshop. In the morning they had homemade cinnamon rolls (I resisted), at lunch all the teachers wanted to go eat at Chili's (They all had burgers, fries and chocolates shakes, I had a side salad with very little dressing and some steamed veggies). When we returned to the workshop they had all of these Hershey's kisses spread all over our tables (I again resisted), then at our break they had homemade cookies in the cafeteria (I didn't even venture in there).
After the workshop we went to Joe's Crab Shack for Happy Hour to celebrate one of the teacher's birthday. They were having 99 cent Margaritas and 25 cent appetizers. When I walked in there was a huge platter of each of the following sitting on our table: potato skins, buffalo wings, oysters, shrimp, mozarella sticks, stuffed jalapenos and crab balls! Man that was hard! I wouldn't even gone, but we had traded names for birthdays and I was responsible for this teachers b-day. Another teacher and I sat with them and just had water with lemon. They kept offering us appetizers and telling us how a "little" wouldn't hurt our diets! Thank goodness the other teacher was there to support me. We didn't give in! Woohoo! I drank my glass of water, wished her a happy b-day and left!
I was so depressed on the ride home, but then got my workout clothes on and went to the gym! This was a really tough day for me and I am soooo proud of myself for sticking to my guns.

Salads
Another tip for the salads is not to overload them with too many different things. I love a fully loaded salad, but as you said, the calories add up quick! Try lettuce, tomatoes and 1 other thing. That way you can vary you salads each day by changing that 1 thing, this helps me not to get bored with eating the same diet foods each day. My nutrionist also told me that I should stick to Spinach instead of iceburg lettuce because it has a lot of iron and other good things that will carry me throughout the day. I usually do lettuce, tomatoes and my 1 things are either a hard boiled egg white, turkey or some fat free cheese. My salad dressing is Garlic Essence Vinegarette. I only use a teaspoon, so that only adds 20 calories and 1 gram of fat to my salad. Making this change to my lunches has helped me lose 5 lbs. this week! Hope it helps!

its gonna be alright
If we didn't have our "downs" our "ups" wouldn't be so good. It's OK to get depressed, just don't stop doing whatever it is that you are doing to better your health. Two steps forward, one step back is hard, but at least you are still moving forward. about the salad, romaine or spinach is the best. Iceberg has no nutritional value whatsoever. Add some nuts to your salad for a protein kick and it helps you to feel full faster.

Ah nuts!
Thanks for the tip about adding nuts to the salad Michele! I am always worried about eating nuts because they tend to be so high in fat. Any tip as to what kind and how much nuts I should use?

Hyatt, you're good to be able to pass up all those wonderful items! Personally I think I would have given in somewhere along the lines.

Well Michele, I figure I was taking every step backwards before, so at this point, any step forward is a good thing! I did ok today until I began stress eating!!!! (I downed 5, yes FIVE pieces of cake!) I still tend to think I'm under what used to be my "normal" caloric intake though. Back on track, Back on track, I gotta get back on track!

I don't recall where I heard it, but somewhere down the line I heard something like seven almonds should be considered a serving of protien. It sure wasn't a whole lot!

Wow, 7 almonds sure isn't a lot. I wonder what that is in ounces? I bet sliced almonds would be really good in salad! Don't worry about the temptations weaver, you will get back on track. The reason I am so hard core right now is that I am in that weightloss competition and there is only 4 1/2 weeks to go. I would really like to lose 15 lbs. by then.
