I haven't checked on this in a while. I think I'm going to give it a few more months before I do. It's a lot more depressing to look at scales that have "obese" and "normal" written on a certain range than weight scales that just show numbers with no classification.

I have very mixed emotions about BMI. The BMI scale is not useable for everyone. Those that are extremely muscular or have broad builds really cant take stock in what it says. I fall under the short and broad build category, and if I go to my goal of 120, I am just making it into the "Normal" category. I dont want to spend the rest of my life being classified as "Overweight" just because I decide to stay at 130, look awesome, but my BMI is in the 30's. I say, why bother if it is just going to make you miserable. I only look at it to see how far I have come from when I started. And people wonder why Americans obsess over their weight so much....

I think bmi is just a reference point. Just like the numbers on the scale. They really don't mean that much, but they are a way of measuring your weight loss, or gain. I really don't like the labels either. They are pretty general, definitely not a 'one size fits all' tool.
I would find it interesting though, if Missy, and anyone else who has their BMI measured differently than by using the BMI calculator, would compare the results of your tests, with the results you get from a BMI calculator. If anyone is willing to do this, I think it would be interesting to see if there is a significant difference in the numbers.
