Lightbulb Comments by others...

Comments by others have motivated me to keep doing what I have been doing and continue with my weight loss journey.

At a recent wedding one of my aunts made a comment on how much weight I had lost..."Wow, you've lost some weight!" At that time I had lost 11 lbs.

Last night my hubby and I were talking. I showed him a pair of shorts and told him that by summer I should be able to wear a size 16...his comment "Shoot, by the rate you are going you will be in a size 11 by then." This comment made me feel so good inside...I just smiled great big and told him "Thanks, that makes me feel good." He said "Well, it is true!"

Be sure to pay attention to the little comments that others are making towards you...if they mention they you are beginning to look good - don't take it the bad way. They are commenting on your weight loss! Give youself a pat on the back for each pound you lose - whether it has taken you a week or two to lose it. You are doing it and that is all that matters! Keep it up!

KEEP ON KEEPING ON! YOU DO CAN IT!

Late!

I agree with you Patty. I've been getting alot of comments from others lately about my weight loss. At first it made me kind of uncomfortable, I'm not real good at being the center of attention but after a while I've gotten use to it and it does make me feel good.

I can't wait to lose another 20-25 lbs and then see what everybody says.

Everybody keep up the good work!!!

I am the same way - I do not like to be center of attention but it feels great!

I also felt quite self-conscious when people started to notice and comment on my weightloss but now I try and take it as a compliment! It is lovely to get encouragement and support from other people.

Hi all
This is indeed a very important thread. People often find it difficult when they see you changing because not only does your outward appearance change but also your behaviour. You become more confident and self-assured and that changes the dynamics in all your relationships. People dont like change, it makes them feel threatened when they already have you pidgeonholed.
Recently what has been annoying me is people saying "you have lost enough weight now, why do you need to carry on with the diet?".
Weight and size are so subjective, we all feel more comfortable at a certain size which others may not appreciate.
We are all in charge of and responsible for the direction our lives take. Often we have a lot of everyday responsibilities which we step up to but neglect our responsibility to ourselves. We all deserve a healthy happy life where we dont feel ashamed embarassed miserable or put down and once we believe that there is nothing we cannot achieve. Weight loss is possible, it has happened for many others and it will happen for us!!!!
I saw the final of the biggest loser last night. Matt, Seth and Suzy are not the same people that started that journey and I am not talking about size. They radiate a joy and an energy that comes not just from losing weight but from gaining control, self-respect and self-love.
I wish that for all of you on the boards!!!
Take care

I know what you mean - I have started getting those kinds of comments now - lots of people saying 'you don't need to diet' 'you've lost enough' kind of thing and sometimes it gets me off track and puts me off focusing on my own goals and I feel guilty for focusing on my diet sometimes when other people are thinking that I don't need to do it. But I need to remind myself that my goals are healthy ones, I am not trying to be unrealistically skinny or unhealthy - just trying to reach a weight I am comfortable with. But I know that other people's perceptions, comments and attitudes can be so important in whether or not we succeed.

I get uncomfortable when people talk about me losing weight, or anyone really. Some comments are so sincere and positive, and others are veiled with skepticism. I'm not sure it that's exactly the right word. But you know-- they talk about someone like they're pretty sure they aren't going to keep it up, or it won't last.
But I'm so glad this thread was started. I think sometimes I look to hard for the negative, or I just notice it more. If anyone comments on my weight, I'm not going to try and figure out what they 'really mean'. I'm just going to take it as a compliment. Even if it's kind of a nasty comment, they wouldn't be making it, if they didn't notice a change, right!
And really, most people do mean well. Sometimes we don't always know the exact right words. But I think you can tell when someone's heart is in the right place.
