Okay, now what?
Well, here I am....I've been gone for a few months. So here are the results. First, let me set things up.
I am a partially disabled vet. I live in constant pain from damage to my back and legs as a result of a bad surgical procedure. I also have GERD (reflux disease). I am unable to exercise except for minor upper body work. I am restricted from doing any lifting over 20 pounds (doctor's order) for fear of furthering the nerve damage to my back. Since December I have tried to do walking, walk in the pool, anything low-impact. It proves to be too painful to do. So cardio is out for me.
Anyway, I take the following medications; Piroxicam, Tramadol, Lortab, Baclofyn, and Omaprozol (forgive my bad spelling).
I am 42 years old and in December of 06 I quit smoking cigars and at that time I weighed 193 pounds.
Here's what I did:
-I still do not smoke. None, at all.
-I trimmed my diet to no more than 1200 cal per day.
-trans fat has been eliminated completely. Fat is minimal and good fats as much as possible.
-The diet has been tailored to be healthy. Green veggies, lean chicken/turkey/fish....
-Whole grains
-no processed flours
-no sodas except diet
In general, I have a the most frikken healthy diet you can think of. It is a good mix of protien, grains, and vegetables.
I started in December of 06 at 193 pounds.
I now weigh 197 pounds.
Did you get that. 197 frikken pounds. I didn't lose anything. I never did. As a matter of fact, the only reason I'm at 197 is that I cut my carb intake to virtually nothing. I was at 201.
What the hell does it take?
I have an appointment in a week with a plastic surgeon. I'm probably going to just have the fat sucked out. That's my only option. I can't exercise, and each pound I gain increases the pain I deal with on a daily basis.
I have sent emails to over 70 different websites and so called "professionals" and have not gotten any responses. Oh wait, I did get one. The guy sent back a message saying that there was nothing I could do since I couldn't exercise. Are you kidding me? That's it? If I can't exercise I'm screwed? Should all of us that are in my position just put a bullet in our head?
Well, that's my rant. I'm stuck at 197 now, and I'm having to starve myself to do it. And yes, I've tried eating more healthy calories, thinking it was my body hording calories because I was starving myself. It didn't work. Nothing works. Sure, if I were able to run 5 miles a day or get back on my beloved mountain bike we wouldn't be having this conversation. But you can't tell me that not being able to exercise is doing this.....
So as I said in the title....
