Calories Needed for Weight Loss

I thought I'd share this with you on how to figure out how many calories to eat for weight loss. My nutritionist gave this to me...

1) Present Body Weight x .5 cals per pound=cals needed at rest per pound per hour
2)take that answer x 24 hours/day=cals needed to maintain body weight at rest
3) take that answer x Activity Level (1 is inactive, 1.2 is restricted exerciser, 1.33 is light activity, and 1.5 is moderate activity, 1.66 very active 3 advanced workouts a week, 1.8 is for vigourous exerciser, 2 is for a runner 20k per week)

4) cals to reduce from diet=7000 cals divided by 7 minus 1000

5) take the present body weight maintenance answer minus 1000 = cals needed per day for weight loss

This is currently mine...
173 x.5 = 86.5
86.5 x 24 = 2076
2076 x 1.5 (for moderate workout) = 3114 to maintain my current weight
3114-1000 = 2114 I need to eat for weight loss

Thanks Missy -- I saw this in Patty Ann's journal, and already did the calculations. It's a lot higher than I expected. I just did them again, and made a few adjustments. First of all, I forgot that I actually lost a pound, and then I did the number for light activity. I noticed you did the number for moderate workout, and there is no way I work out as hard as you! So, now I need to eat just under 2000 calories in order to lose weight. It will be a lot easier to keep them under 2000, than trying to keep them under 1500. But I'm still going to shoot for 1500... kind of like how you want to leave at a certain time, but then you say you're leaving half an hour earlier, in order to make the actual time.... Does that make any sense to anyone? The point is, and I do have one, is I need that extra cushion. I'm afraid if I shoot for 2000, then I'll be crowding it, and going over....
Ok, now I'm rambling. It's definitely time to go and do something else! G'night everyone~

That sounds like a good plan! It's always better knowing you can go over without feeling too guilty about it.
