Today's Oprah Show--Weight Loss Surgery

I'm surprised that Oprah did a show on GWL Surgery. I had always heard she was anti GWL Surgeries. I didn't see the show, wish I had.

I've known four people who have had the surgery. One of them finally admitted to me, "You know, knowing what I do now.. I could have lost it on my own. I was just in such a depression and stage in my life, I thought it was the only answer. So I did it."

However, I agree if you don't deal with your head first, you're never going to keep it off. They had 2 different shows on local news (ABC and NBC) about Gastrics and how you are just transferring an addiction. The guy who was quoted on one of the shows said, "Having a Gastric is like changing your seat on the Titanic. Unless you change your method of getting there (changing ship/lifestyle change) you are still going to sink."

They talked about how 20% of Gastric patients usually take up an alcohol or drug addiction or the like. Funny thing is... one of the four people I know who had the Gastric has become an alcoholic in my opinion. (Not her opinion, because as she says, Alcoholics go to meetings)
