Hey Friends,
I will be at the open casting call in Houston tomorrow I want to thank you for sharing your experiences. It helps tremendously to know what to expect! Keep me in your thoughts as I stand in a cold, wet, loong line!! I plan on waking up at 4 AM and getting in line @ 5 AM. If they don't let us line up that early, I will sit in my car for a few hours!! Take care, and I will be in touch Any comments or suggestions?

Hey Everyone-
Here's my update...I got to the venue (24 hour fitness) at 4:30 AM. There were about 50 people there. Someone started handing out numbers to keep things fair. They were allowing us to sit inside until 6 AM. We were sent to our cars from 6-7. At seven we all began to gather outside. By this time there were about 300 people there. Those of us who were early started to get up front. The ones who just got there were saying the numbers were not handed out by NBC and were useless. There was some DRAMA. Then...24 hour fitness said we could not line up until 7:30!! Finally, someone gave the signal and we were herded like cattle through the line. I was number 101. Wristbands were supposed to be handed out at 8. We had been standing in the cold, rain for an hour by then. Finally, at 9 the NBC girls came out handing out short applications and wristbands. It was still cold and raining. We were FREEZING!! They never let us in the club, and began to refuse us entry to use the restroom. They directed us to some very nasty port-o-potties!! I decided to wait...for 3 more hours!! Anyway, at 10 the line began to move. They called us into an aerobic studio in groups of 20. Two tables of 10 were set up, each with a casting person. We sat down for maybe 6 minutes. We were asked for our application, our name, and one question. What is the one misconception the public has about fat people? What is it that really makes you mad? Then we were asked to leave and told callbacks would be that night. I did not get a call. She said we could still submit a tape. Should I? Will it make a difference? Do I need to submit a new application with it? I would be surprised if there were more than 500 people there. Everyone in line had a wristband. I doubt many came after 10. I was really upset that they took such little time and kept us outside in the rain. Not a great experience!! Oh well- I gave it my best shot. I really thought I was spunky and charismatic.

Twink.....

Sorry to hear that you didn't have a good experience at your open casting call. I say "YES" to sending in a tape. As you saw the open casting calls were in groups of 10 and only 6 minutes (that is what mine was like in Seattle as well). If you really want to be on the show....make a tape and show them why!

If you listen to the audio link that BigBoyOKC posted you will hear that they really do watch each and every video submitted. A video gives you the chance to show them all the GOOD things about you.

I would go for it.

Congratsto everyone for making it to the Houston open casting call. It sounds like the weather was awful!

Wishing everyone GREAT LUCK!

Let me get this straight- Big Boy OKC- was asked to come to Houston for a "call back" he drove 9 hours from Oklahoma to sit in a 6 min. roundtable? I would be livid!! I thought the call back was a more in-depth, personal, interview. Am I wrong? The whole Houston session was seemingly unorganized. Unlike rejazz, we did not have any celebrity contestants show up for encouragement. Only one cameraman came out...not even a reporter! I'm sorry to vent, but I feel like more of an effort should have been made to make us feel like we had not wasted our time standing outside in the cold rain- ARG!!

The type of interview that you and Big Boy OKC experienced is the STANDARD type of open casting call. It sounds exactly what Crimson and I experienced in Seattle. The more in depth and detailed interviews are in the callbacks. It is here that they interview and tape you for one hour.

Again, I am sad to hear that you did not have a pleasant experience. Like I said earlier...if you really want to be on the show....go ahead and send in your video as soon as possible.

Don't let the open casting call experience detour you from meeting your goals. We are all here to support you in your journey.
