Bob and Jello
I was wondering how you all feel about the blatant commercials inserted into the show? This week it was Bob shilling for Jello. Last week I believe Kim was selling Milk.... I understand the show needs to pay the bills, but I feel it cheapens the credibility of the trainers. Seeing Bob getting into Erik's face and trying to inspire him is great. You really believe he cares and wants to motivate everyone into a fit, healthy life. I have to wonder what's going through Bob's head when he is dragging everyone into the kitchen to spend 45 seconds talking about how fun it is to make Jello.....? Do you think he really believes in the foods they have to sell, or is he just cashing in? If they have to shill for something, I just wish it was for healthier foods without artificial sweeteners and junk. I guess broccoli doesn't pay the bills.
Just my 2 cents.

I wish they'd show more in the kitchen so that when they do show Bob talking about Jello it doesn't look so stupid...That said, Jello is suppose to be really good for you in terms of snacks...1 cup of jello is better then 1/2 cup of ice cream which I think was the point...I love seeing the trainers push the contestants but I think the show would be a good way to teach people at home about healthy eating and we hardly see anything on that...

I can't tell you how glad I am that someone else has noticed this too!!!
Its not enough that they have Jennie-O cartons of turkey getting a front n'center shot during the opening credits, push Jell-o and diet soda on us (which lets face it, are nutritionally void) they also had an enormous spotlight for Bayer Aspirin one week and that really made me feel like I'd had enough.
If you love Jello thats great but personally, I loathe Jell-O, its baby food. If I'm going to spend 110 cals on a dessert I'd rather have it as a tablespoon of gorgeous, creamy real ice cream than pots and pots of jell-o or aspartame-filled sugar free ice cream.
There could be so much more that they show but cluttering it up with shamless plugs is demeaning the quality of the show, in my opinion.
I'm sure that NBC gets more than enough dollars from the ads they show every six minutes, but having product placement be so heavily and so blatantly included during the program is a little much to swallow.
I want to watch a show, not an infomercial!!

I actually like when they have the small segments where they are talking about food. I like to know healthy alternatives and good snacks to choose that are readily available in the stores. I prefer they do this than not tell us anything at all about what the contestants are eating.

I agree with the product pushing. The Tylenol or whatever it was two weeks ago was ridiculous. I can see why they are selling Jell-O (they are providing the prize money). Too be fair; Jennie-O is a great brand of turkey, but people dont need to be force fed the brand name. A simple thanks to the sponsors should be sufficient. I feel like I am watching the "Truman Show" with all the blatant sales attempts. That is what commercials are for. But I forgot; that is when they run the pizza commercials. For once; I would like to see a BL menu and not have to buy the book.

It doesn't bother me. It pays the bills and besides Jello is a huge sponsor. Don't they put up the money? What's wrong with them letting us know there are healthy options out there? Doesn't mean we have to buy them. I'm into the turkey thing myself but I buy Shady Brook Farms and I'm not gonna change just because I love the Biggest Loser.

The product pushing really doesn't bother me. I guess I'm so used to it....
And as far as the recipes-- I laughed last year, when they did 'pudding in a cloud'. Gee -- pudding and cool whip -- that's a recipe!?!? Oh -- they put the cool whip in first! Genius!!!
But I do want to try the parfait thing. It looked good -- even if you didn't have the strawberries. ( only good in season, ya know)
But I have such a sweet tooth, and I do enjoy the sugar free jello -- and only 10 calories a serving-- I can eat the whole freakin' box if I want!
No nutritional value, but it helps satisfy a sweet tooth with minimal damage to the diet!

I guess the whole contradiction thing bothers me, the message of the trainers to eat well for the rest of your life and for a good diet to be a lifestyle etc.
Then telling us to eat ultra-refined nutritionally devoid boxes of chemicals kind of grates on my nerves. All those sugar substitutes and hydrogenated oil are poison and just because they're low-cal posion shouldn't make them an option.
But like the OP said, broccoli must not pay the bills *lol*
I get a bit on my soapbox about this stuff I guess because one of my co-workers collapsed at his desk at the beginning of the year. After countless MRI's and much nail-biting by his family - it turned out that he had aspartame poisoning. He drank gallons of Turkey Hill Diet Iced Tea and of all things, that was the culprit. Everyone thought he had a brain tumor - the guy even had temporary vision loss. Its so bad for you all that stuff.

I agree. I think that many people have the misconception if it's low-fat, or low calorie, it must be healthy. Wrong! A handful of walnuts is high in fat, but so much healthier than any box of Jello.
I once read a doctor say that many people overeat because their bodies aren't getting the right nutrients. Hence, they're always hungry. Filling your stomach with nutritionally void foods is not good. Sadly, more people worry about the type of gas they put in their car than the nutrients they put in their body.
I guess it's pointless to get on a soapbox about this. Unfortunately, many people go on diets just for the vanity of how they will look. It's not about health for them. It's how they will look in a mirror. It's a concept that doesn't make much sense to me, but many do it. I've seen people after exercising walk out of the gym to smoke cigarettes.

Anyone remember the pop/juice or whatever that they were all about last season? Zero something or something Zero? I don't like it when they just radically change...I understand if something better becomes available but just switching is stupid...
