I guess it's pointless to get on a soapbox about this. Unfortunately, many people go on diets just for the vanity of how they will look. It's not about health for them. It's how they will look in a mirror. It's a concept that doesn't make much sense to me, but many do it. I've seen people after exercising walk out of the gym to smoke cigarettes.
Not to mention the people ( usually women) who start smoking, or won't even think about quitting because they don't want to gain weight. That's really sad to me.
I agree about all the low and no-cal foods. But I do think they have their place, as a treat, along with a healthy diet.
But I remember years ago when they first came out with 'Snack Wells' cookies. They couldn't keep them in stock at any store-- they flew off the shelves so fast. Yes, they were lower fat than regular cookies, but they were still 50 calories each -- and each cookie was barely more than just a bite! So what happened? Women bought these, thinking they were a healthy option, and promptly ate the whole box!
Many times you are better off just eating a small portion of the 'real thing'.

doriesmith is on a distinguished road
I don't mind the product placement either. I can see the Jello deal though...they are paying the $250,000 prize so of course we are going to see jello throughout each season. It was common in the past too. I remember seeing Suzy making jello at home and when they had the special editions and the players went home to finish competing, did you see the product placement with what the show stocked in their kitchens? We've seen Jennie-O Turkey, Cool Whip, Pinto Water...what else this season? I personally like the sugar free jello with cool whip free on top occasionally when I'm craving something sweet and I'd rather settle for that than a fat and calorie laden candy bar, cookie, slice of cake or bowl of ice cream (ice cream is my weakness by the way!!)
