Starting local group

Hey all - I'm starting a Biggest Loser group here at the store in several weeks and was hoping you had some wisdom to share....

Has anyone done this locally? Doyou have any sample forms you've used you'd be willing to share? What about waivers so no one sues me if they have a heart attacks? Do you have format suggestions? How long should we do it?

I'm eager and grateful for any thoughts you might have tohelp us have a successful session.

Blessings,
Cyn

Haven't weighted myself - will start as soon as I get my hands on a scale - hows that for denial - not even a scale at home!

They are doing something similar at my job. We did sign waivers. Everyone formed their own teams. So within teams they do their own thing or individuals do things on their own. That may help with not getting sued if you are not actually doing exercises together. At the beginning everyone went in to get measurements. A million different ones but you may want to be simple and just do weights and body measurements. There are team and individual prizes. Most active and highest body fat percentage lost. This lasts 12 weeks. Everyone has their own individual trackers that is done in Excel and we e-mail them in so things can be tabulated. I hope that was helpful.

We are doing something like this at work also. IT's only my team so it's only 5 of us. For us it's more about encouragement than competition . Everyone is on the honor system for weight (we do weigh once a month) and whoever wants to gets measurements.
We have a couple differently prizes. We have a ceramic cupcake that the person who lost the most weight gets to keep at their desk for the next month. We have a picture of a ffunny looking lady that has the caption of "Fitness Queen" that the person who wants encouragement to exercise keeps for the next month, and we have a little stuffed fish that the person who needs encouragement to drink more water keeps at their desk for the next month... since its all the honor system we didn't think it would be fair to have actually monetary prizes.. Since it's not sponsored at all by the company and everyone is doing it on their own we did not sign any waivers or anything

Good luck to you on whatever you decide to do

Well if you can hold off for a few weeks my site www.weighins.com will be done.

You can pretty much do everything that you need to run a weight loss challenge on the site. Also as a bonus by referring more people to the site you can gain a prize pot.

But it still 2-3 weeks in the future.

The waiver was provided by a third party they contracted with to run the entire thing and I am quite sure they are copyrighted in some way. I work in recreation and when anyone signs up for anything they sign a "Hold Harmeless Agreement". That's what this organization used. I betcha if you google "Hold Harmless Agreement" you may be able to find some standard forms that you could use or adapt to your needs. When I go back to work on Wednesday I will try, no promises because I am busy because I have a quite a few programs that I manage starting in the next few weeks, to look at our registration forms for our recreation programs and see what our statement looks like.

You're all my heroes/heroines <g>! Thanks so much. I went to the weighin page but it starts before we will - can I still use it even if we're not starting until the 24th?

Thanks again all - my jaw is set on this for the first time in a long time and it's great to have you "out there".

That means the site should be launched around that time.

Once the site is up and running you can create challenges any time you want and set up start date, end date, ect.
