What did you think??
So what did everyone think about the Season Premier? I was so happy and I feel 100% more motivated again to push myself even harder than I do now. I am rooting for the red team this time around. I love the new trainer, she reminds me of my own trainer...and I know the work will get done.
What are your thoughts?

Well my wife is writing the show recap right now but heres what I think.
I like the red team. I like the new trainer. I still miss Jillian though. I think they made a good decision on who to vote out. I think they made a horrible decision on who to switch weight with for the weigh in. Im glad that the other 36 still have a fighting chance to get to the ranch. Im still addicted.

Loved it. I am going for the blue team, nothing different I always want the blue team to win because of Bob. I like the new trainer too but still going for Bob's team. Looking forward to next week. I think the red team made a great decision on who to vote out. Her facial expressions were telling. I love the fact that they have some really heavy folks on this year. The days between shows are difficult but I will survive.

What an absolute disaster. If anyone saw the opening of The Biggest Loser, you probably felt as I did - angry. How dare this show USE people that are already in a sensitive state. If you missed the show, let me explain how awful this show treated these individuals.
The contestants all told their families and friends that they were selected to appear on the Biggest Loser 3. You can imagine the parties, the excitement, the pride families and friends had and felt. Many of them travelled thousands of kilometers and psyched themselves up to begin what was to be, most probably, the "biggest" moment of their lives. And then here's what happened.
The minute they had arrived, only 14 of the 50 were selected. The other 36 were told to go back home at once. I thought it was a joke at first, but no, the show was quite serious. Many were in tears and crying. Their self-esteem was already badly damaged from years of being over-weight in a hyper-sensitive body-critical society, and now they had to endure not being selected by attractive, in shape, fitness experts, as if it were some bad high school dance all over again.
THEN, to add fuel to the fire, they were told they would be given a DVD and book to help them lose weight. I'm not overweight myself, but my mother is, and I know that she is not unique in that she has tried every diet and read every book out there; another new book and DVD will hardly make the difference.
Can you imagine the embarassment and shame these people must feel, when they have to call all their family and friends to tell them that they were rejected on the first day. Absolutely ridiculous and shameful.
I no longer will watch such a show that displays such carelessness and disregard toward others and I encourage everyone else to turn the channel and watch something else; or better yet, get out and go for a walk!
Just awful that people are treated in such an objectified and dismissive manner!

Adam,
I can understand your frustrations...but they did give the other 36 contestants a run through of the training program to show them what to do and a nutrition plan they can follow. They also all still have a shot at getting back to the ranch and winning just as much as the others do.
Trust me, I know if I was sent home I would be disappointed too and I'm really not sure why they couldn't have all of them at the ranch.

Im sure that I would be disappointed but I am also sure that all contestants were told that there may or may not be a chance to get to the ranch. I guess maybe that is just a chance they were taking. I love that they are showing the after on the weight loss of Jen. So far Im very happy with the show and I will watch again.

I am once again pumped to lose weight! THis show is such anispiration to me.
Plus anyone that was sent home can still come back and win, if they are devoted enough.

Yes of course it was disappointing to the 36 that had to leave the ranch. I would hope that they channel that disappointment. They still have the chance to be the Biggest Loser. They have an advantage over those that are voted off. Once voted off they can't be the Biggest Loser at all. Those voted off can only get what I consider 3rd prize. Who won it last year? Dave?

I didn't get to see the show on air, but luckily they let you watch it afterwards on the NBC site -very glad of that. Anyhow, I was struck by the same thoughts as Adam at first, but I was so glad they didn't send them home empty-handed. Sure, they're not on the TV show every episode, but they were taught about nutrition, exercise, given gym membersips, given the book and Dvd, and importantly they're still under scrutiny. Their progress was to be published online, from weigh-ins to journals.
I didn't look at the book and DVD as you did exactly Adam, I see them as extra help. Firstly, I have those materials myself (Thanks to Aaron!) and they are great. But also it gives people no excuse. Can't get out to the gym? Use the Dvd at home. Can't remember the diet? Open the book and look. They didn't all get to compete but in a way they got much more than people on the show who get voted off in the first week or two recieve. Not everyone can stay at the ranch for the whole show; atleast they still have a chance. And hopefully all those people who threw them parties and wished the well will give them loads of help and support as they do this not at the ranch. The people at the ranch don't get their family's help or contact with them at all.
Before anyone judges the show, I'd say go online and look at a few of the at home contestants. Many are doing quite well and kicking the pants off of some of the people at the ranch. And importantly they are learning that they can do this -they don't have to go away to a special ranch to do it. I think it will stick with them and change their lives even more in some ways. The only wierd thing to me is the online journals. Interesting to read, but not helpful when people leave encouragement since it's all over already anyhow. It was extrememly gratifying to see the weight loss for the person voted off. Even though she went home week one, she got the prize that matters. That's encouraging too.
Cheers! Jules

I really do think that some of those people sent home are going to have something to prove. They are going to want, more than anything to show that they could do it, on their own, for the most part. I kind of hope one of them wins, just to encourage all of us, who can't or don't ever want to be on the show, that we can to it -- we don't need all that time, isolated at a ranch to conquer our issues.
