Butterfly's Evolution--August

I thought I needed to change my journal title. We will see if that helps.

I am so sore right now. Yesterday I did my first personal training session...he tried to kill me. I got so mad at him I wouldn't talk to him. I talked to the head trainer and explained my concerns and he said it won't be that way next time--Thursday. I felt as if he was trying to "break" me. I felt as if I wanted to throw up. We'll see how Thursday goes. Today I did swimming. My "coach" says I am doing so much better. I am excited about that. I think the combination of the Urban Rebounder on Sunday, trainer on Monday, and swimming today is why I am so sore. I will have a break tomorrow. I am debating whether I will end my exercise week on Thursday. I guess I will have to see how my body feels.

I took my physician release form to the doctor's office for the wellness program at work. I am really getting excited about it. I have 5 people on my team and we have a team captain. We are well on our way and I know we are all competitive so we will definately strive to beat the other teams a....!!!

Darlin' try not to get too mad at your trainer. My trainer was exactly the same way and I love him to death. I have lost almost 60 pounds by getting him. In the beginning I always felt like I was going to die, and I would constantly say "I can't do it"...but you know what, I eventually did it! My muscles ached and he even made me do so much weight on my calves that I couldn't walk for 2 days. I have also puked numerous occasions. Trainers are tough and they are there to kick your butt. You just have to get yourself in the mindset that getting into the shape you want to be is hard work...and the trainers are pushing you to do what it takes to get there. Nobody said losing weight was easy right?

Keep at it, get yourself through the workouts...you'll notice huge changes in yourself over time. You'll eventually get to the point where you can look back and think how easy it would be. If I had to do the amount of weights he made me do back when I started at the present time, I would laugh at how easy it is to me...you'll get there too, just keep working at it!

I think those wellness competitions at work are a great idea! My husband has stuff like that through his job. They get points, and some free gifts, if they have enough 'wellness points'. Of course, they give points for brushing your teeth, so I'm sure it's not quite the same things. But hey -- it's all important!
Sounds like a great motivator.
Just wait -- in a month or two, you'll be breezing through the workouts you think are so tough now. Totally worth it!!!!!

Missy, thanks for the advice. I am going back on Thursday. I have had a trainer before that challenged me and had me doing things I thought I would never be able to do but this was different...he had me working at a pace that nobody could keep up with for an hour. I just don't think he took into consideration what my needs are instead I think maybe he was trying to show off. There was one instance where I could see in the mirror that he was pointing and motioning to the trainers in the office. Like I was a joke or something. I am trying to better myself yet you're acting like an a..! We'll see how it goes on Thursday. If I feel like I can not work with him I will request another trainer. They didn't take any measurements, didn't weigh me, didn't ask me any medical questions and he had me doing all this interval running on the 1st day. How do you start someone running on the 1st training session? He talked about me sprinting a few laps. Are you kidding? I told him I wouldn't do it. I was at my limits and if I fall out and have a heart attack they're not liable. They would say you had a choice. I am obese...if I could workout at this pace why am I here? A trainer is there to guide me, encourage me, challenge me, help me reach my goals not set up tasks that make me feel like I am never gonna make it. Making me nauseous or feeling like I want to throw up does not equal a good training session to me. I think it is a philosophy thing and we will have to see how it goes. I wish my last trainer still trained. I would gladly go back to her. She was firm, consistent, and helped me to reach many goals. Too bad I didn't stay on that path then I wouldn't have to deal with a trainer on a power trip. Last gripe...then I will move on. He didn't do anything with me. He just told me what to do and watched. You see other trainers running with their trainees or doing the exercises with their clients but no he's just telling me what to do. I don't give up so I was really surprised that I told him I couldn't do anymore. Thursday is a new day. I know this is so worth it.

I am so looking forward to this wellness competition because it so like the Biggest Loser it will help me with the withdrawal I am experiencing.

Gosh -- that does sound harsh. I would think a trainer should be able to find that balance -- to push you harder than you ever thought you could go, rather than to defeat you, and make you never want to come back.
I don't know- maybe this first sessions was some kind of test, to see how far he could push you.
If you do think he's treating you like a joke, find another trainer and log a formal complaint about this one. If there's any truth in that, it's just so horribly juvenile, this person should NOT be a trainer for anyone!
I hope it all works out for you in the end. I hope you and this trainer come together, and he can push you, without discouraging and defeating you.

Hi Butterfly. I don't think I can add much to what the others have said except don't let the B******s grind you down and stick with it, even if you have to get another trainer becuase of this ones stupidity.

Thanks everyone for the support. That's exactly why I come here. I am still sore but I am so ready to go tomorrow. I am looking forward to the challenge. Tomorrow is weigh in day. As usual my weight has fluctuated up and down but I don't think I am back to the 211.5. I feel so stuck right now. Gaining and losing the same few pounds. I really hope I can see at least 210 or 209 soon and then I will feel I am just a little bit closer to getting out of the 200s. Tomorrow is the meeting for the wellness contest so I get to find out all of the details.

Sounds like a loser to me (putting it mildly). Personal trainers are supposed to be encouraging, helpful etc. This one sounds like he was trying to just show off. Get to your goal weight, go back there and blow his socks off with the new you...if he still has a job.

Can you contact your former trainer to see if she has any "friends in the training business" she could recommend to you? Trainers arent cheap and you shouldnt be treated that way for what you are paying. If it happens again; seek out the manager for a chat.

I dont consider it giving up that you spoke up for yourself and didnt let the jerk kill you. I commend you for going back for round 2. Let us know what happens. Nobody will call you a quitter if you drop the sessions with this guy.

Keep up the good work!

Tonight was so much better. I am excited about that because I don't have to find someone else. It was challenging, interesting, and doable. I think the head trainer talked to him. So we are set up for next Monday and Thursday for 5:30pm. After that I only have one more session left and I know I will purchase more. Probably 14 more that way I will be set for 7.5 weeks on top of the 2.5 I already have. 10 weeks, we will see how I do.

I found out more about the wellness contest today. There are 2 team prizes and 4 individual prizes. We were set with 5 people on our team but gained 2 more so we are at our max of 7. The contest officially starts August 27 and ends November 18. You get measured either on August 10 or 15. Which is good because you could actually lose a few pounds prior to the actual start and they will count.

I weighed in at 214 today. I have put the scale away and taken the battery out. Hopefully that will keep me off the scale until my next weigh in on Labor Day. It seems I do better when I don't weigh constantly. Well, I will get weighed on the 10th for the wellness contest but I have to so no big deal.
