A Healthier Happier Journey in June

Just when you think you've got something under control and stop paying attention to it, you turn around and there it is misbehaving (like a puppy). Except I'm talking about FOOD. Let me tell you, it took a lot this week for me not to just go into a grocery store, buy a small tub of ice cream and eat it for dinner. It would be so cool on these hot days, chocolately for sure and mmm.. NO! One day I even had to go home and watch the FitTV channel where a diet program was on to stop myself from ice-creaming it for dinner. Why? WHY? I don't normall eat the stuff anyways. Stupid TOM + misbehaving appetite.

Back to the ole Food Journal:
Yesterday: breaky=yogurt smoothie (90cal) lunch=6 in subway Turkey with mustard on Italian herb and cheese + 1 small apple (370 cal + 60cal = 450 cal) snack= 6in subway (370 cal) Dinner=frozen meal 320 cal, 1/2 glass Reisling white wine (50 cal) Snack= chocolate fudge pop 30 cal
Daily Total =1220 cal
Hey, that was better than I thought my total would be. Atleast no tubs of ice cream in there.

Today: Bkfst=none (late to dentist) lunch= lean Cuisine Paninni 320 cal snack = 1/2 large orange 60 cal + hot tea (0 cal) dinner=Papa John's Garden Delight Pizza (not my choice) Really a messed-up day food-wise.
Daily Total so far : 380 cal

mmm I miss eating ice cream, but you can get frozen yogurt that is just as yummy with less calories, sugar and fat! But as per usual, you still have to watch your portions.

Aren't those fudge pops great?
I have to eat at places or from places that are not my choice either. But I try to make the best of it. I did eat french fries the other day. But ya know-- they realy weren't very good. Sounds like a garden pizza would be a really good choice though, as far as pizza's go.
I'm going to go try and figure out my calorie count for the day. I think I did pretty good-- but I've thought that before and been very unpleasantly surprised!
Food logs really help in keeping it real. You can't deny those numbers!

Don't sweat too much if you give into temptation once in a while. Remember you a just human. If I remember right you need to consume 3500 calories to put on 1 pound. I burn 300 calories (approx) in 20 mins on the cross trainer, about 1 normal size snickers. Don't make a habit of it though. I think its safe to say we are proud of you for NOT giving in. You are setting a great example

I usually post at work, so I never post at the actual end of the day. Continuing from yesterday then... I tried to enjoy normal things, but in small serving sizes.

Yesterday: 380 cal (listed above) Dinner = 2 1/2 slices pizza (850 cal) snacks = Snowcone (250 cal) 2 blackberries+ bite of a frozen chocolate pop (20 cal)
Daily Total: 1500 cal

Comments: I shouldn't have eaten a snowcone at all, but it was an outing and V really wanted to go (it's really hot out). We packed the puppies up on their leashes in the car and drove out to get snowcones. I at least ordered myself the small size. The puppies had a great time on the outing and got lots of attention from the small children there. Parents even told us how well-behaved they were (beams). It's good that they get used to being around people, Ender's still pretty shy. Overall, a little high on calories but not too bad considering. I just had to estimate the snowcone calories. For some funny reason, diet sites don't list the calories in that... :P I mean, who eats snowcones on a diet right? Not as bad as I feared all added up, but I don't wants such unbalanced days regularly.

Today: Breakfast= light Peach yogurt smoothie (90 cal) Cup of Ambrosia tea (0 cal) Projected: Lunch = Campbells Select Roasted Chicken with Rotini and Penne Pasta Soup (200 cal) Snacks = dried pineapple no sugar added (40 cal) 3 0z Blackberries (30 cal) Dinner: Pizza (X cal)
Daily Total so far: 360 cal

Comments: We used to order the special 3 large Papa John's Specialty pizzas for the price of 2 and they'd be eaten for every meal until they were gone. No more for me! Still got the pizzas, but I managed to avoid eating it for breakfast, didn't pack it for lunch, but since I'm eating so healthy now I may fit in some for dinner, knowing how many I'm allowed. (Also there's nothing else for dinner at my house, gotta go shopping again).

Thanks for your comments everyone. I really appreciate them all. I'm frustrated that food is becoming a problem again, and I don't want to go back to eating like I did. I don't want my weight to roller coaster like my life was doing, I want those things to be separate. Things are going smoother for me now, but yet here again I'm struggling with diet/exercise. But I'm going to win out on this. I'm sick of this being an issue in my life, yet I can't turn my attention away without deeply ingraining good habits first. Recording foods is I guess where I'm at now. Sorry, just needed to vent/explore my feelings a little. Time for lunch now.

And yes, those sugar-free fudge pops have kept me sane through this attempt.

Mmm-- snocones. We have Tropical snow here. They have the best flavors, and awesome combinations. They really are good, espeically on a hot day. At least they have no fat right?? It's basically just sugar water. I know they aren't healthy, but probably much healthier that ice cream.
Like you, I try to eat normal things, with maybe slight moderations. I simply can't fix 2 seperate meals-- 1 for me, and 1 for the rest of my family. So, I try to make it a little healthier all around. Yesterday for example, my husband wanted grilled pork burgers. I used to like them, but they are so greasy, they really have lost their appeal. So I grilled myself some chicken tenders, and him the pork burgers. Funny thing way, he wanted the chicken too. ( I had grilled enough for 2 servings)
I guess I'm glad that some things really don't appeal to me anymore. It makes me think that some of these things are starting to stick, and become a part of me, and I won't always have to think about it so much anymore. I'll naturally want the lower fat, healthier food.
I dont' think I"ll ever feel that way about chocolate though! Too bad, huh!
Again-- thank goodness for those fudge pops!

Snowcones are awesome!! My sister actually bought me a snowcone maker for my birthday one year, it came with all the liquid powder to put on it too. They were soooo good. But, the amount of sugar I had to add to the juice was outrageous! I couldn't believe it.

They are good for a treat now and then though

I am so jealous that you guys have two puppies. I would love a dog if I had a house. Talk about built in exercise. I would take mine to the bike and hike trail. Somehow I dont think my bunny could make 6 miles and I would have to carry his furry behind most of the way. I hear they do have buggys for them...
I have an idea for a sno-cone but it is probably gross. Why not get a crushed ice maker (if they make those), or use a hammer. Then thaw a sugar free popsicle and pour it over the ice and freeze? Just a thought. At least the sugar would be left out unlike the originals. Or use sugar free syrup? It's no wonder I will never be a chef...
Ambrosia tea? What is it? Sounds good...
Papa John's...(grr...) Dont ask.
Finally had my Veggie Delight Sub on wheat. Not bad; if I werent so lazy I'd make my own.

Thanks for the puppy-smiley. It's really cute! The puppies aren't so much organized exercise yet as they're still pretty small and still getting used to the leases, but before long they will love exercising. It's funny because here we are all hoping to lose weight each week and I'm getting my puppies weighed at the vet every few weeks and we're betting on how much they've gained. (Ender went from 11 to 15 lbs in just over 2 weeks, Roland from 15 to 22lbs) Hoping Ender catches up with his brother, but they have different builds. (Ender is the fuzzy one.)

I've since found out that the snowcone place does have sugarfree flavors (only like 3, but hey that's better than none) so next time I can get that. They just don't list that on the menu for some reason. Oh, and the Ambrosia tea has orange peel, dried currants, and all sorts of yummy fruit flavors in it. I love teas and am always up to try a new one. Unfortunately the label doesn't list all the ingreedients so I forget what is in each exactly if it's a blend like Ambrosia. Today I'm drinking Mount Everest black tea, but will probably drink something different next. I love variety.

Diet-wise I've realized just from the few days I tracked my food that I am eating out of balance. I wasn't eating too many calories, just had 2/3 of my daily intake at dinner (which means little food in the morning/lunch). I've been making lovely veggies to go with my meals at night, just slicing up things like squash, zucchini, sweet potato, and bell pepper and putting them in the oven in a baking pan with a little olive oil and black pepper. It's really good and easy for me to "cook" as it takes so little effort.

Glad to hear from everyone. Carrie -glad you got to try the veggie delight finally. Very true you could make it on your own, but if you have to eat out it's pretty healthy for a sandwich. It's also nice n cheap.

Well, off to read everyone else's posts and get back to work soon. Keep your eyes on the prize everyone. Cheers!
