Amber's Journey

Well, today is the day. I've struggled long and hard with the weight that I have put on and now it is time to put my foot down and get the fat off!! I started this morning with a circuit fitness class I take here at school. 1 hour, 2 times a week. On Tuesday and Thursday I have step aerobics and I shake my fat every night with Bob from the BL DVD. I really have to get it off. I can't take it anymore.

Remember to take one day at a time and if you get discouraged come to this site for motivation. I know exactly were you are coming from and you can do this. I have been on getting healthier and slimming down since the first of the year and I have lost 45 pounds so far. If I can do it anyone can. Lots of luck.

Welcome to the forums! I love step aerobics too -really keeps you focused on the movements and not so much on how much you're working out. You'll have fat melting off you in no time if you can keep up that exercise. I'm glad you have access to classes at your school, that should help out a lot. Remember to also maintain a healthy diet and drink plenty, and I mean plenty, of water. Cheers and so happy to meet you. Have a great healthy day tomorrow.

I am a horrible dieter, I admit it. Thanks for all of your support, I REALLY appreciate it. Right now, I'm not doing that great. Craving all of the food I used to eat and I'm being mean about it. Food is my addiction. How do you give up an addiction cold turkey. Turkey. Ew. Smile.

Hi there. I just wanted to welcome you to the boards again. It's nice to see new people join the site.

Giving up the foods you love definately isn't an easy thing to do, especially if you are used to eating them all the time. You have to remember that you are only meant to eat for survival...not for pleasure. Start slow if you have to, start by taking 3 or 4 things out of your diet and increase them as you go.

I used to crave McDonald's cheeseburgers every day for almost a year..and I'd give in and have it at least 3-4 times a week...once I started being dedicated to the gym and to a new lifestyle, the cravings stopped. I still think about how good they are, but I haven't done to McDonald's in over 4 months now.

This made me laugh a lot!

It's not easy, but remember you're eating for health. The more you work out, the more your body will crave substance -veggies, lean meat.

Soon you'll eat something bad, give in and eat it, and think ew, why did I ever want this? I feel disgusting now. Or you can look at the calories they contain and compare it to the exercise it would take to burn it off. For example, if I ate this small tub of ice cream I would have to walk 10 miles to burn it off. That kind of math gets your attention quickly. Or, try this: Would I rather 1) have the body I want for a lifetime or 2) eat this bad food right now. Which do you want more? 5 min of pleasure now or overall happiness later.

The easiest way? Just don't have junk food around. Don't buy it. Don't carry cash. Whatever it takes to avoid snack machines and snack attacks. Then you only have to be strong in the store, not at 2 am when you want to raid the fridge. Make sure and allow yourself some good alternatives -fruit, sugar-free fudgesicles, sugar-free jello, 100-cal packs of things. Portion control and having healthy alternatives will both help you out right now.

Remember you're not denying yourself by not eating those junk foods. You were just denying yourself good health by eating those foods. Now you're treating yourself to a healthy life.

So if you're craving out of boredom, exercise. Or come post in your journal and read others -let them inspire you to stick to your diet. Or eat something healthy and controlled portions. Or drink water first -often thirst is mistaken for hunger. Get plenty of water in you and you'll be less hungry. Figure out WHY you're eating junk foods and that will help you stop it easier than just trying to stop eating junk. It's a head game as much as anything.

Overwhelmed you yet? I hope not. We've all been there, and we all fall back into it, but it's better and better with every effort you make. Good luck with the diet and keep up the great work on the exercise. We're cheering for you to reach your healh goals!
~Jules

I agree with Jules. I was once a very big junk food junkie, but since I have been eating healthier and smaller portions junk food actually makes me feel awful.

I have to agree with Jules as well. I never buy any junk food or keep any in my apartment. If it's there, I'd eat it and crave it until I give in. I'll treat myself once in awhile to a chocolate bar or something, but even then I only eat half of it, and my bf gets the other half.

The only thing I really have around here for snacks is celery with peanut butter, low fat jello, rice cakes...and then all the other stuff like fruits. I will have frozen yogurt on occasion as well, it's not as bad as ice cream, but tastes pretty much the same.
