The End of FAT!!
Journal online? So everyone can see? Well, I guess if I want to be brutally honest with myself. Here goes nothing... Day 7 of my diet:
I have lost 12 1/2 pounds in the past week-- thanks to busting my butt and basically eating as little as possible (not the healthy way, I know) But today I caved and ate a McDonald's hamburger and oh my gosh, do I feel like junk. Who knew venturing off the diet path could prove to be so devastating to your morale? As soon as I took the 1st bite all I could think to myself was that I am a failure and I am going to be fat forever.
I had a cousin who passed away a couple of years ago who went to Hollywood and hit the big screens... he was so perfect, cute and nice and most of all thin. And as the only other grandchild in the family, I know everyone thinks why can't I be thin and beautiful like him. But my question is, why can't they just love me for me until I get thin. I don't want to get thin for them, I'm doing it for me and my kids.
Does any of this make any sense? Sorry to ramble.

Hi!
First off welcome to the boards! Congrats on what you have done so far in the weight loss department. Have you lifted 11 pounds of anything? 11 pounds is a substantial amount of weight to have shed. Keep up the good work!! More will follow.
Here is my take on the Online Journals. I really really like them for a few huge reasons. 1) They teach accountability. If I put it in my journal, I have to see it through. If not, there are zillions of people out there who will know I had a "bad day." Or in my case...an UH-GLEE week. When it comes down to it, these journals are here for YOU. Write whatever you want to. Each journal on here is completely different than any other, and a delight to read. You can be as personal or as impersonal as you wish. If there are things you need to get out of your system, but dont want to broadcast into cyberspace, then you can send a personal message on here to somebody you trust, or you can keep an offline paper journal at home. I honestly believe that in order to change the outside, you have to heal the insides first. Otherwise, the cravings will eventually come back. Another great thing about these journals is that they talk back. People will read your comments and write some of their own. Unlike other sites, this one is 100% positive feedback. I have not met one nasty person on here. The comments I have received have all been motivational. If you have a less than stellar day, your friends here will be there for you. I cant say the same for that hamburger. What has that hamburger done for you lately except make you feel bad? One "not so good" choice wont undo all the positive ones you have made thus far. Accept it and move on. You are stronger than you think.
As for your family wishing you were like your cousin....you cant really think they believe that do you? If for some ridiculous reason they do, then tell them to shove it. (Figuratively) I think you are 1,000% right to say that you arent losing weight for them, but for you. If they cant see your inner beauty, then they have lost sight of what is really important about a person (their insides). I wish you the best of luck with your journey. Keep us posted!

Wow, thanks!
I am flattered by that. In the first week I was a member on this site, I felt like I had made a whole set of new friends. The people here will only encourage you, not try and sabotage your sucess. Since we are all in the same boat, we understand what everyone is going through. This site will eventually become more important that the next food fix. And, everyone posts so often on here that it takes forever to answer them all. If I start typing and I crave something, then I continue typing...eventually the craving will be forgotten. Journals will help with your weight loss and typing skills, but not in your quest to avoid Carpal Tunnel Syndrome!!

You know that is just it. Everyone here is supportive and not trying to sabotage you. They REALLY want you to succeed unlike many people we all know in our lives. They talk like they are supportive but once you start to see succuss they get jealous or something and start acting weird. Here you don't find that and it is soooooooooo nice.

Welcome Aboard! As the others have mentioned the people in this forum are terrific. You just can't ask for better people to talk to every day. They inspire me, motivate me, and give me tips on how to succeed in my weight loss journey. I have become friends with many of them - they are the BEST! I try to post my journal every day but sometimes get too busy to sit at the computer - but when I do I am honest about everything. I feel good when others give me feedback on my journal - I know that they have read about my day and they are interested. It is nice having a journal talk back to you - giving you the okay to move on when you feel bad is great! You will soon see that we are all here for the same reasons and we'll do anything for anyone.
Keep up the great work but don't forget to eat...just watch calorie intake. It is important to keep your body in stable condition while you are on your weigh to lose weight - someone in here has mentioned in order for your car to work you have to care for it (fuel it)...this is the same with your body (food is our fuel) we need it to care for ourselves in the correct way.
Take Care - Best Wishes!

I just wanted to state that not eating is not good for you. I used to do this all the time when I wanted to be thin a few years ago and it messed up my body big time. I read somewhere that people should normally be eating at LEAST 1200 calories a day. The more you eat, the faster your metabolism is and the faster you burn off fat.

Ohhh, naughty naughty. Starving your body will actually cause you to gain more weight in the end. Trust me; I made this diet mistake myself...with tragic results. Try having at least five meals a day. Breakfast, lunch, snack, dinner, and another snack…if you space each meal apart by no less then 2 hours, or no more then 3, you will see results. I know that for me, I lost 22lbs in no time following what I like to call the “common sense” policy. Portion control…the key to all things great.. If portion control is difficult for you, like it was for me….try finding yourself a program, like Nutrisystem, or Jenny Craig. Something that works for you and you know you can actually stick too. Just don’t starve yourself, because it’s going to lead to failure, and none of us here want that for you. Not to mention, it’s very unhealthy.
If you need advice, or just want to get some suggestions, feel free to ask. We all know what it’s like to be fat.

I talked to the health manager at the gym today about starvation. He said that people who don't eat think they are doing a good job because the numbers on the scale are going down really fast...but you are really hurting yourself. By not eating..you are not only losing fat, but you are also losing your muscle and that's not good.
He also said that once you start eating a normal diet again, you gain the weight 3x faster because you screwed up your metabolism by not eating. It's better to lose weight by eating the proper caloric intake as well as a good exercise program.
I'm not trying to belittle, I just don't want you to hurt yourself and be upset in the end.
