~Missy in April~

I am pretty sad right now. We took my little kitty into the vet yesterday because she has been acting different than normal. She is lethargic, doesn't want to play, doesn't eat, doesn't go to the litter. All she does is sit on our heater to keep warm. So we took her in for a check up.

The vet informed us that she is underweight for her age. She is 5 months old and is to be around 5 pounds...she is under 2 pounds. The vet said she seems very weak and unhealthy. She was dehydrated, and has ulcers in her mouth. They took some blood yesterday to test for leukemia..came back negetive, THANK GOD. They also gave her some fluid shots to hydrate her.

We took her home last night and there was still no change. She still didn't go to the bathroom or eat anything...so we took her back to the vet this morning. They are keeping her for a couple days and putting her on an IV for food. They are also going to give her more fluid shots and take more blood to test her kidney's, heart and other organs.

I hope she is okay....

have they checked for kitty aids? I have two cats that when we first got them one of them was like that, we thought we were going to have to put him to sleep. We found out that it was feline aids (not tranferrable to humans) and they gave us shots to give him. We did the shots for a while but they were really expensive, so we decided to just see what happened if we took him off of them. He has been alive and healthy for 7 years now. I think he just went into remission or something, but yeah, I was just wondering if they had checked for feline aids, cause the symptoms sounded familiar to my cat.
I hope you figure out what is going on soon and I wish you the best.
Lisa

Missy,

I'm sorry to hear about what you're going through and about your little kitty. She is soooo cute in the picture. I am such a cat lover and this is definitely going to be on my mind. I'll be thinking of you, and will say a little prayer for you and your kitty.

Laurie

well my cats were born with it (they are brother and sister) we actually rescued them from a house that had about 20 cats, most of which were not tamed. But yeah I think its just like human aids, its transferred either through sex or being born with it.

Wow, I have never heard of animal AIDS. How long has it been around? I am sorry that your kitten is so sick. It must be really tough to watch her (or any animal) suffering. I will keep your kitten in my prayers. Let us know when you hear something!
