desperate Mum's journey
Hee I go. I am starting on my journey today, not knowing how much I weigh but would love to get down to 100kilos. In Australia, we have a group called TOWN (take of weight naturally) which I was going to before Christmas, but haven't been back since the silly season. I should go back, get weighed and then I will have more of an idea of how I am going. I want to be able to walk without getting up a sweat, enjoy longer bush walks with my kids, have enough energy to do the garden and get the house in order. I struggle with a sore leg and get breathless ever so easy, although I try to hid it. I went for a walk with my petite sister who was not exercising, smoked and I had been doing 2-4 kilometers a day, and she sailed up the hill while I huffed and puffed all the way! Not fair! I have been told by the doctor I have Syndrome X, so that may account for the lack of 'high' you supposed get from a good workout. In the past, counting calories just didn't work but the doctor said it is because I need low gi foods, not the lower calories. I must say, I did lose a little bit pre Christmas doing the low gi diet, but I need more information and motivation. Well, here goes into a new way of life for me!

Hi Misty, sounds like you are headed in the right direction. When your doctor says you have Syndrome X, is he referring to no adrenaline? Just curious, because I have never heard of it before. Keep up the good work and the pounds will come off. This board is full of help, encouragement and advice, so you came to the right place!

syndrom X
Syndrome X is a group of disorders. It has to do with isulin and hormones. When we eat, we normally use some of it for energy and what we don't use, we store it as fat. With Syndrome X, it all gets converted to fat and that's why reducing calories alone doesn't work. I used to be on 1,000 calories under a dietian, but didn't lose weight even though I was being sooo careful and excerising. She reduced it to 500 calories and vitamin supplements, and I lost weight! But that was hardly eating anything! With low gi, it is the type of food that is important as it works differantly. The slower releasing glucose in the low gi foods give the body more time to use up whats released. So it works!

20th february
Today, I didn't get to acheive anything I set out to do. I was soooo looking forward to my walk in the bush with my dog, but I had forgotten about a meeting we were to have with the local council. So I packed my daughter in the car, (the other one was staying at a friends), and the car wouldn't start. On the phone to get a lift for my daughter, re-organise a meeting with the council in the afternoon and get the car seen to. Car is working now, meeting done with, girls dad has been for tea (we only had brevilles, but my eldest daughter had been cooking at school and we had a yummy apple and berry tart with low fat custard and a little cream. I could have done without it. I am determined to do my walk tomorrow, and it will be a longer one than I had planned for today. My legs are stiff when I get up, but I hope that will pass as I lose weight. Here's hoping! I won't be going to T.O.W.N. (Take Off Weight Naturally) as money is sparce at the moment, so it is up to me. It's 10pm now, so time to sign off and get ready for bed. Goodnight!
