Angry The Nerve of Some People!

Okay, I am somewhat upset. I understand that being over weight isn't exactly socialy acceptable, but the nerve of some people sends me into a blind rage.
I was at the grocery store, reading the back of boxes. I just wanted to see how many cals. and carbs each of the items I was buying had. Ya know, make smart choices. And a woman bumped into me, and didn't say anything. Nothing too uncommon, I've noticed a lot of people lack manners these days. Anyways, naturally, I say excuse me. She turns to me and says, "Looks like you need to be in the fruit and veggy isle" I seen red!
As a rule of thumb, I am always polite...but that was just uncalled for. What do you say to something like that!? I felt the tears sting my eyes, I grabbed my purse, and all but ran out of the store.
I am not feeling sorry for myself though. Shallow people have shallow minds. I just wish people could understand that it's not as simple as taking a few pills and suddenly you're skinny. If it was that damn easy, no one would be over weight.
And for the record, I'd rather be fat any day, and love myself...then to be skinny, and be nasty to everyone.

Carrie,
My favorite Jell-0 is any flavor that is sugar free! What can I say, it's a snack that you don't really have to feel guilty about, so, the more flavors and options I have, the better.
I am glad you like my name. I couldn't think of one I found more fitting. And you're correct, skinny people cannot see past a persons size, and see its what is on the inside that matters most. I just explained in my latest entry about my run in with someone rude before I had a chance to read what y'all said.
I have not had any yogurt, but, I will be more then happy to try some.

I cannont believe what I just read...That woman has got to be nuts to say something like that. It amazes me, no sickens me that people can be so cruel. In answer to your question...you really cant say anything. I know I would have been in tears. Remember this...You can always lose weight (which you are), but she will always be ugly on the inside. Inner ugliness is far far worse than being overweight. Be proud of who you are. That which doesnt kill us makes us stronger. I am so proud of you for standing your ground and not decking the woman. By the way, there is nothing wrong will checking the labels. I do it all the time.

Sorry to hear that Jami. I think you should have kindly explained to the woman that she was also in the wrong section. "The pharmacy is that way, and I think it's time for your chill pill." lol

Carrie,

I could not agree more. I am used to the stares, and the glares, but never has someone been that vocal. Part of me wanted to just find the nearest Popeyes and eat away my sorrow...but I thought to myself, why should I allow someone so heartless and shallow affect me and my goals? In the end, I know I was the better person. As I said before, just because I'm over weight doesn't mean I don't have a heart of gold. I'd rather be fat all my life then to be a narrow minded skinny demon.

Hi,

You know the fact that you didnt go eat 5 burgers and fries is good, but even better is the fact that you didnt sink to her level, and you didnt let her get to you. Did anyone else witness this drive by insulting? If so, they probably thought this lady was nothing more than a classless excuse for a human being. This lady should probably re-adjust her Ritilen. There are so many nice people out there, but no matter how many positive comments you get in a day, it's always the negative ones that are remembered most. (unfortunately). Forget her, someday it will be her turn. And I am guessing from her childish display yesterday....she wont take it 1/2 as well as you did. You are an inspiration to us all.
