Losing weight, eating the right foods and getting regular exercise obviously will improve my health. More specifically, it can help me avoid medications, such as cholesterol lowering drugs, high blood pressure, and several other meds that I'm probably not even aware of that treat problems caused by obesity.
Every medication you take has side effects. Some of which sound worse than the actual problem...

Confidence! You take better care of yourself, you look better you feel better--- and you feel more 'worthy'. I kind of hate to say that. But i know how down we can get on ourselves when we don't do what we need to do. We ( well, at least me) start to feel like we don't deserve anything good. I mean, if I can't take proper care of my body, what possible good could I be to anyone else?

Shopping... I not a big shopper. I like to find and get what I need and be done with it. But it's sure a lot easier, and a lot more fun when the clothes you like actually fit and look the way you want them to.
I'm a complete cheapskate -- never met a clearance rack I didn't like. And it is so much easier to find a bargain when you aren't as limited in the styles you can wear, because of your weight.
I have to find a dress for my niece's wedding in November -- long way off, but I'd like it to be fun, rather than a dreaded chore.

Pride -- 'What have you done today to make you feel proud?"

A sense of accomplishment .... I am in control.... it's in my hands....

You have to feel proud when you get through the day taking the best care of yourself that you can.

Metabolism. Consistent exercise will help rev up your body's metabolism, even when you are not working out. And of course, more muscle mass burns more calories too. Yay for exercise!

Just finished a book -- Jemima J. by Jane Green.
It's about this girl who's overweight and her struggles.
It was one of those books you sit down with and just devour-- and easy read.
I loved some parts of it and thought it was so accurate as to how you feel and how you're treated when you're overweight.
But there were also parts that I thought were just wrong.
I don't want to go into it too much, but if anyone else has read it, or reads it, it would be interesting to hear what you have to say about it.

I love it when I find a book that I read like that -- and when I have the time to get lost in a book.
And while I liked it, there were parts that I found disappointing.

I am determined to get to the Y tomorrow. I haven't been there for weeks. It's not that I haven't been exercising at all, but I know it hasn't been as intense as my Y workouts.

Summer is flying by! Keep my in your thoughts -- my 15 year old is taking driver's ed. and he needs a lot of practice time. Yikes!

I read it a few years ago when it first came out. Come to think of it, I think it is still on my bookshelf.

Yeah, I think it came out around 2000, or something. It's funny to read about their newspaper going 'on the line', meaning they were getting the internet. Also, talking about dialing up, and waiting for pages to load. It's not really all that long that most of us have internet access in our homes. But it seems to me like I've had it forever!
Sometimes I thought that book was really good and hitting the nail on the head. But then she lost tons of weight in such a dangerous way. I almost thought that was the way the book was going -- to have her develop an eating disorder...
So yeah -- it was fun read. But again, I was disappointed in message as a whole. I had much higher hopes!

I got to the Y this morning and worked out for 55 minutes on treadmill/elliptical/bike combo. I also did some upper body and some nice stretching. Felt great!

By the way, do y'all know that Jillian is coming out with a fitness routine for the Wii, that uses the Wii Fit balance board? I'm sure there will be lots of new games utilizing it, but this is the one that intrigues me the most. I hear the Wii Fits are almost impossible to find. I guess living in a small town in the middle of nowhere can have it's benefits, because I didn't have too much trouble getting my hands on one.

Confession: I ate 5 donuts today, as well as a healthy dose of chocolate.
Why? Wish I knew. Usually I would just tell myself to move on-- it's just a screw up. I would ignore it, and promise to do better.
But I'm not doing that. I'm just throwing it out there. 5 donuts. For no reason at all-- because they were there? Whatever.
I'm so sick of calling this my 'journey'. It's a trip to nowhere.
I won't get anywhere until I stop this type of behavior. And it isn't always this kind of behavior-- it's usually just 'oh, it won't hurt to eat these fries just this once', or ' oh, I'll just skip supper and eat all this chocolate'.
Big whoop. Even if I don't eat too many calories, I haven't given my body the nutrition it needs.
I'm a food addict. I have this need to eat until I feel stuffed.
Only I can stop it. I want to stop it. I will stop it.
I hope that by not denying it, that I will be able to face it.
I'm not going to log every morsel I eat, but I am going to confess all stunts like the one I pulled today.
I do believe that calories are calories and that as long as you burn more than you eat, you'll lose. BUT -- your body needs nutrition and fuel, not just a bunch of fat and sugar. So even though I think that calories are calories, and don't really go for 'food combining', or whatever you call it, I do believe that it will all work better when you give your body the fuel it needs. Lean protein, whole grain, fruits, veggies, water.
I'm not going to talk about working harder. I do get regular exercise. I'll never stop that. I've always enjoyed it and plan to continue as long as I live. Even if it's just sitting in a chair swinging my arms, when I'm 95 years old! I'm a believer, and I will always keep moving to the best of my abilities.
Stay tuned for tomorrow's confessional. Maybe I'll have nothing to confess? Give me strength!
