Smile my journal

Hi,Im not sure what is required to start a journal, but it sounds like a good idea.If anyone can tell me about it id be grateful. My new diet started this week and i joined the biggset loser forum today so i guess that going public is a bit more commitment.Im 49 years old, mother of seven nearly grown up children.I weigh 186 pounds and i hate the sight of myself. All my weight is at the front so i look permanently pregnant
I eat quite healthy foods and after following biggest loser ive really educated myself on what to eat, trouble is,in between meals i graze on the bad stuff.Ive joined a gym and go there three times a week for thirty minutes at a time.I wish there was a magic spell to stop me eating the rubbish.i will come back next friday and tell you how my first week went.

Hello and welcome! It sounds like you are making all the right changes. There are people who have a lot more advice to give than I do. I know what to do, but have a hard time actually doing it.
But I'm so glad that you're here!
Your journal can be anything you want it to be. Some people post their diet and exercise, and others post about what is going on in their lives at the moment. Anything goes.

Your journal is for whatever you want to talk about...it could be weight related, exercise, work, life in general. Whatever you care to share or vent about is usually what people post here.

As for the snacking...if you are going to be at work or out somewhere...pack some sealable lunch bags full of veggies or some cut up fruit. For work I always take 2 cottage cheese cups to work (they are about the size of a yogurt)...protein is very good because it satisfies hunger and it's better for you. You could always get those mini rice cakes as well. They come in many flavours and some of them taste just like chips.

Also, look at your water intake. Most people don't drink enough water when they start a weight loss program. There are many great articles on this topic. Here is just one.

Water and Weight Loss by Kim Beardsmore: The Sideroad

Last year when I got serious about losing weight, the first month, I was very frustrated because nothing was happening and my wife was dropping weight like a stone. She finally encouraged me to replace everything I drank with water; and ample amounts of it. I saw results the first week. Now, it could have been my body was just ready to lose, so that's when I did the research on water and weight loss and was very surprised.

Bob Greene's book The Best Life Diet is also a great resource.

Plus, drinking cold water forces your body to burn calories to heat the water you've consumed. Imagine that, forcing your body to burn calories without exercising!

Great tips hammer....I agree with you on the water aspect of weight loss. I'm up to drinking 3 litres a day now. It's not an easy thing to do, but you can definately build up to it like anything else. I hated water...and it was like pulling teeth to get me to drink it all the time, but you can add different flavours and such to it with Crystal Light and similar products.

When I do want a little taste of something else, I buy caffeine free diet coke...which seems to solve my cravings for pop.

Yes -- great tips, and ones I needed to hear. That's what so great about this site, you get advice, encouragement, and support indirectly too!
I've been sadly lax on the water -- way too much diet soda. But I've started filling water bottles again. I don't know why, but I'm so much more likely to drink it is it's in a bottle than out of a glass. Whatever works!
