Cool June-- moon, spoon, croon......

Hello everyone! Ok, the party's over, literally, and figuratively. I have to get down to business and get healthy!
The party went great -- weather perfect -- some leftover food, but nothing will go to waste, except some beer I think. We had a really good turn out, and everyone had a lot of fun, enjoyed the food and socializing.
I have been eating so terribly, I'm simply to embarrassed to give any details. But let's just say I'm sick of it, and really ready to get back to a healthy diet. Even when I don't drop any weight, eating healthier foods and getting that exercise always makes me feel better.
I really haven't had time to exercise for the past days or so, but I was doing a lot of physical work... I think that counts. But I"m really missing my bike rides, and can't wait to get out there tomorrow.
My biggest challenge is going to be my diet. And I really have to change some things, because I'm not ever going to lose any weight if I continue to be so lenient with myself. I have the time now to focus on me for awhile, so I hope to develop those good habits again. It really is habit for me.
Anyway -- hope you all had a nice weekend, and are motivated along with me to make this summer a big success.
By the way -- the title of my journal-- I don't know why really, but June always makes me think of the song 'By the Light of the Silvery Moon'. I think June is only mentioned briefly. And sorry for those of you who now won't be able to get that song out of your heads!
Carol

I know Phil -- believe me, I have many friends and family who think even spilling a drop is alcohol abuse. But they didn't come through this weekend, and didn't finish up the keg! Water the plants with it? It won't hurt them?
I had a wonderful bike ride this morning and have done some stretching and toning exercises -- and I feel great. I missed it, even though it's only been about 4 days since I last did it.
Well, I'm just trying to behave today, and keep telling myself that I have to limit myself more, and that 'just one bite' WILL hurt!
I want to make a difference this summer. I'm not looking for any amazing, jaw-dropping weight loss, but I do want to lose enough to be able to really see it. Even if it's just me who can tell. I'm no longer as happy at this size. It's much better than when I was over 200 lbs, but it's still too much weight. I was borderline being content with it, but it's still not good for me. And I'd be a lot better off without it.
Have a great day everyone.

Wow -- another beautiful day. And I am enjoying them. So far today I've been very good with eating and have gone on a nice long bike ride, and done some stretching and toning as well. I'm focusing more on my abs, because they are the most annoying area for me. Abs and arms.... I feel like my legs probably get enough of a workout biking. But I still need to do those squats and lunges sometimes, because they really do work.
So... all's good. Well, except for the fact that my weight is up. But I have been very naughty this past week, with everything from bbQ ribs, to potato salad, to cake, and beer. Shame on me! At least I don't do parties very often. TOM also arrived yesterday, and that never helps. So, it's still all good. I'm not getting upset. I got what I deserved. And I can fix it.

I have just got to accept the fact that I am going to feel hungry sometimes. I used to embrace this, and know that it is a good thing, and that I am burning fat when I feel hungry.
I don't mean starving or anything, but that empty stomach feeling. It's when I eat as soon as I start to feel this way that I can really gain weight. I don't know why I do it, because I don't like feeling too full either.
I think I get too worried that I will get to that ravenous, starving stage. If I go to long without eating anything I do start to feel shaky and weak. So I think that because I want to avoid that feeling, I over-eat, or eat before I really need to.
I don't know -- I think some of it is just in my head. I talk myself into feeling a certain way..... Food is such an emotional thing with me...
Food is fuel. This doesn't mean we can't enjoy it, but we shouldn't take on more than we need.
I need to get back into the habit of taking a multi again. I've been hearing things about vitamin d, and I'm probably not getting nearly enough in my diet. A multi sure wouldn't hurt me.
So, this week I'm going to go for that 'hungry' feeling. And when I get it, I'm going to drink water, and wait. It will probably go away. And when it comes back, it will probably be time to eat a little something anyway. That's my other problem-- a little something always turns into a lot of something. Again, it goes back to my need to feel 'full', not just satisfied. I just have to adjust, and listen to my body better -- my body, not my head. It's amazing to me how much water helps this, and how easily I forget about drinking it. But now is the time to re-teach myself, and to develop new habits.

Hi to you too! Great to see you're still here and living a healthy life each day. Water is amazing. Good luck with those hungry feelings. And one more thing I wanted to mention, if you're outside even 15 min/day you're probably getting enough vitamin D.
Quote:
Sunshine is a significant source of vitamin D because UV rays from sunlight trigger vitamin D synthesis in the skin
Chin up and take a 15 min walk outside if you feel the need for some vit. D.
Cheers,
Jules

Well then I ought to be getting plenty of vitamin D-- at this time of year anyway. I do try and use sunscreen though, but I'm not very vigilant about it -- only when I know I'm going to be outside in the sun for long periods of time.
I am trying to kick the coffee habit-- not all caffeine, just coffee. I never used to drink it, and got into the habit of having a cup every morning. But now that it's summer and hot out I don't want to deal with it anymore. I just don't enjoy drinking something hot when I'm already hot. And iced coffee just sounds bad to me...
I might go back to a cup of tea in the mornings. It's hot too, but seems more refreshing than coffee. Plus, I don't have a coffeemaker to clean every day-- just a cup to wash. I also think it's much better for you -- especially the green tea I like. I'm taking pain killers to ward off the inevitable caffeine withdrawal headache.
My bike is working better, thanks to me oiling the chain. It's still not perfect, but I no longer want to throw it in the lake.
At my son's college orientation, I got to mess around at the wellness center and try out all the different machines. They are really fun when you do it like that, but I'm sure they would become dreadfully boring if you were only them every day as long as you need to be. I'm sure the novelty would wear off quickly. Although I don't hate my little mini-stepper yet. I did have to use it quite a bit this winter. I preferred it over a workout video. I just don't think it's that tough of a workout.
No worries about that right now though -- the weather is a little too hot for my tastes, but I'm not complaining. Summer is definitely here!
So far today I've done well eating. Mcdonalds premiun grilled chicken sandwich is really quite good. I didn't even have mayo on it, but I'm not really a big fan of mayo anyway. But the bread was good, the chicken seasoned nicely, and just topped with fresh lettuce and tomato -- I was pleasantly surprised! About 370 calories -- but it was a big sandwich!
I think I'm fixing pork chops and mashed potatoes for supper. Not exactly diet food, but I'm not really into 'diet food' as much as I'm into portion control. I'm also watching the fat and sugar. So I'll probably fix my own potatoes without the butter, and the pork chops are lean anyway.... as long as I only eat a small one, I should be fine.

Wow -- I can't believe how longs it's been since I've posted here. I check in, but since it's so quiet, it seems rather silly to post. Kind of like talking to yourself -- which I have a tendency to do, so I don't know why it would bother me here!
Remember the good old days when it was next to impossible to keep up reading everyone's journal, let alone responding to anyone? Ha -- well, it's certainly no problem now.
I've been busy in the house moving my daughter's bedroom, and painting. I figured that was enough exercise for the past few days. But I did get a bike ride in this morning. We are having a bit of a break from the heat, ,so I thought I'd better take advantage. I'm so glad I did-- it was gorgeous!
We're planning a little vacation to Branson MO in August. Not my first choice, but it will make everyone happy. This is probably our last family vacation -- my oldest might be too busy to go after this. He's actually too busy now, but since he starts school in August also, I told him he could just go ahead and quit a job if they didn't want to give him the time off. Don't think that will be necessary though.
I missed Shaq's show with the overweight kids. Probably for the best. I know it's a problem, but I'm not much of a fan of his, so I probably shouldn't waste my time watching him. Just another show to get addicted to!
We got rid of our satellite service awhile back -- just got tired of the price going up every other month..... and I have to admit I don't really miss it.
I wish a cable or satellite company would come up with a package where you could pick your own channels. We always end up with so much that we never ever watch--- I wish we could pay $? per channel. Parent's with little kids could get some cartoon ones -- sports nuts could get all the ESPN's they could ever want , etc..
I suppose that would make too much sense. But I think that would clear out a lot of the 'pure crap' channels.
I also get a bit disgusted with the channels that show reruns of network programs. I don't mean like TVland, which shows older programs.. but like TBS showing 'kind of queens', 'everybody loves raymond', 'yes dear' etc.
Why do I want to pay to watch stuff I could watch for free when it was new, and is playing reruns on free network stations as well?
Whatever-- done with that rant! We'll probably get back some kind of cable system in the fall when football starts again. I don't think the husband will enjoy missing some of the big games!
