Make a request at work...
Have you ever thought of asking the ones who bring in the not-so-good-for-you type of snacks in to set them where you won't see them? Maybe they can put them under aluminum foil or tupperware. Just a suggestion - I know how it is tempting to swallow one of those gooey brownies up...I love brownies. Good job getting through the temptations! Keep it up.
Oh yeah...it is great that others are noticing your hard work.

That was a great story Nicky. It is great that we can also see the "lighter side" of dieting too. No pun intended. Do your co-workers bring in treats everyday? That must be so hard to resist! Especially when whatever it is, is right near you. Sounds like you are doing great.

P.S. I think we need a new Thread for American Idol!! It is supposed to be insane this season.

I think it is about time to make your work space a "fat free zone", talk to your coworkers, surely they will support you and keep the brownies far, far away. Maybe they will even be inspired to start eating more healthy. I know my students have been inspired by seeing me eat healthy things at school. Everyday they tell me that I am getting skinnier and skinnier (God love children) Their Valentine's Day party is Tuesday, and they said that since I am eating healthy, they should too. They are going to bring veggie trays and good stuff instead of all the junk food.

I think you are such an inspiration to all your co-workers by all of your new healthy choices. I work within a company with a lot over very overweight-morbidly obese people. Everyday somebody comes up to me with a positive comment on my progress. People around you may not say it, but they are noticing your success. They are probably jealous too. It takes a lot of gutts to turn down workplace treats and vending machines. Do you have a weight loss club at work? We do, and it is called The Skinny Club. I dont think they have done anything with it in a while. What a shame. Veggie plates are a great alternative. My favorite veggies are cucumbers, celery, and cherry tomatoes.

My favorite raw veggies are carrots, cauliflower and zuccini. They are even better in Ranch dressing-but we won't go there ! We don't have a weight loss club at school, but we are having a mini biggest loser. We weighed in on Jan 31st and will weigh out on March 10th. The winner will get about $300.
We are participating in the Active for Life Campaign. You can read more about it if you go to www.fightcancer.org In this campaign, we are on our school team, we set weekly workout goals, then try to achieve or surpass them. Once we have set our goals, we can see our progress individually or as a school.
As part of the program, the whole district has instituted a "Healthy Apples" walk program. Most of the major high schools and middle schools are meeting places for the club. I convinced 2 coworkers to join with me, and we are going to meet at Austin High, right on Towne Lake. It should be really beautiful to walk there. A big company called Runtex is going to give us free shoes and train us to walk to compete. It is a 10 week program that meets once a week. I am totally looking foward to it starting on the 20th.

Elizabeth, That sounds like a really need thing you are involved in.
Yes unfortunately my co-workers bring in food quite often. I know tomorrow is one of the girls 14th anniversary with the company so she was talking all week last week about what she could bring in Monday (tomorrow)... it's like it's all some of them think of.
I think I will put up a sign at my desk saying no junk food zone

Great idea Nicky. It is too bad that all the teachers at my school are not involved in the weight loss competition. Every month they celebrate the teachers' birthdays for that month by bringing in cakes for everyone. There is usually 15-20 cakes, and some of them are made from scratch. This used to be my favorite day to go into the teacher's lounge, but last Friday I did not even go in there. I just let all my mail stack up in my box, and waited until after school to go check it. It is hard when coworkers bring in food, and talk about food, but WE are going to stay strong and stay the course. We can do it!

I understand about the cake temptation. I am a professional cake decorator, and temptation is all around me every single day. It makes it somewhat more of a challenge though. I love the "taste" things...and in doing so, I think I ended up eatting more then I would by sitting down and having a slice of cake.
Now, when the urge to have a sweet is there, and over powering, I have the sugar-free, low carb cake. As a professional, I can say, it tastes like crap...but I can't imagine any cake that's sugar-free tasting like something I make myself.
My suggestion is, tell them that you're trying to lose weight, and temptation isn't something you need at this point. My employee's are very understanding, and supportive, as well my friends and family. Now instead of eatting something in the bakery, we eat salads together. Believe me, it helps a lot.
