Patty's Journal 2/6/06

Hello! Today is another good day. I didn't get my water started this morning like I have been doing but as of right now - 1:40pm - I have already had 40 oz of water. So..I'm still doing good. I just talked with my sister and I was telling her that the support my husband gives me is AMAZING - he has really taken me by surprise. I think that he is excited to see me work on my weight loss - my kids are too.

This evening I am going to have Turkey Burgers for the first time - I hope they are good. I have heard nothing but good reports on them. I have finally found the Ground Turkey in the store - I bough two family packs today. I'm excited to get rid of the beef and start feeding my family in a more healthy manner. I don't think they'll even notice the difference - my husband knows that I have it and he is actually excited about trying it out.

Does anyone have any suggestions on french fries @ home? I usually buy the store brand fries and bake them...is there any other way of making them healthier?

It is a cold day out - 34 degrees - but I am going to be sure I get my walk in...this is why I want to get videos to workout with - so that way when it is too cold to go outdoors then I still have my workout complete.

I have found that keeping a daily journal has helped me out tremendously. I am beginning to know a little bit on why I eat when it isn't necessary. When I get angry, upset, or bored I tend to eat but for the past week I grab the water instead...or lay down for awhile. That usually helps me out.

Hi Patty-

Good luck with the Turkey, I hope you & your family enjoy it!!

As far as the french fries, I haven't tried this myself yet, but I found the following recipe on the Internet. Give it a try and let me know how it works out.

2-3 Large potatoes cut up into wedges
Pam spray (fat free)
Seasonings

Using a gallon ziploc bag, put in cut up potatoes. Spray inside of bag with Pam spray. Mix potatoes with spray. Add seasonings of your choice. (I like Italian seasoning, seasoned salts, etc...) Layer on a Pam sprayed baking sheet so no potatoes overlap. Bake at 350-400°F for 10-15 minutes (depends on oven). Check doneness with a fork.

Hope you like the turkey burgers! I am going to do mine with large leaves of lettuce rather than using buns. I figured it was a great alternative to just having this patty staring up at you from your plate. Keep up the good work!

Well, my husband & I ate the turkey burgers on a bun - it was delicious...I was full after one. My husband ate both of his. Thanks for this recipe...I will definitely try this out.

We really enjoyed the turkey burgers..I was full after one. I will try it with the leaves of lettuce b/c I couldn't believe the calories in one bun...it's outrageous.

I'm really upset b/c I was not able to get my walk in yesterday - it was just too cold. I only got 1/8 of a mile done. I was also upset after eating dinner last night - thinking I had too much to eat. After I included my meal into my fitday.com journal I realized that I had done a terrific job. My calories for the entire day were under 1400 - took me by surprise.

Today...I will be making up part of my workout yesterday. Instead of 2 miles I will walk 3 miles today and 3 miles tomorrow - that will catch me up. I have a visitation tonight so I am going to walk right after the kids get home from school - 3:15pm.

I finally got to the store to get my fabric measuring tape so that I can take my measurements. I am having my husband measure me - that way he knows where he is doing it and how he does it is consistent. I will be measuring my upper arm, breasts, waist, hips, mid-thigh, and calf...I am doing my calf b/c I have large legs. They are muscular but large. I am due for a weigh in tomorrow and wondering if I had lost anything this first week...if not then I am not going to let it get me down. I know and understand that it takes time for the weight to come off.

I am just hoping for the best tomorrow. I have had my 20 oz of H2O this morning and my Special K cereal...this cereal is so good and fills me up. I am getting ready for my 2nd bottle of water...

I wish everyone the best as you work on your weight loss!
C-ya!

Turkey Burgers

That's great that you liked the turkeyburgers. my husband and i make a ground turkey meatloaf that we love. we found that if we buy ground turkey breast (which is more expensive than regular ground turkey it is much lower in calories and fat which makes it much better for us.
we haven't tried turkey burgers yet- but i'm sure once we get the grill burning every night thatwill be one meal we have.

our favorite oven fries right now are:
cut up 2 servings of potatoes into chunks and spray them with i can't believe it's not butter spray and then throw them in a ziplock bag with half a package of carb options onion soup mix put them in a baking dish and bake at 400 for an hour. yummy!!!

Patty Ann you are doing a terrific job. Once you realized you could not walk , you still stayed on track. That is the key, not to be to hard on yourself.be forgiving.
I do not know if any of you can relate to this-- My struggle is breaking my thought patterns . For example, Sunday, I realized I had not exercised in three days two of which I had some free time before work to do it . So I get mad at myself for not doing it and down a whole row of saltines and I didn't bring planned meals to work and things started going down hill I was snacking
on things. Luckily, I am more in touch with myself and I was able to go to kickboxing on Monday night and the grocery store to buy some fruits and vegetables and get back on track.

Can anyone relate???
I am a very loving and giving person to my friends and family, now I am trying to be my own best friend.

Patty_Ann, one thing that took me a while to figure out is that I don't have to starve to eat healthy. As you learn what healthy eating choices are you find that you can eat as much if not more than you ate before, just by making the right choices.
