This weekend I am going out of town to visit my mom. I told her I am bringing the motivation to her. I am bringing all the fixings to my turkey burgers with lettuce wraps instead of buns, I have a whole bag of fat free jello and 3 new workout DVDs to try on her. Keep your fingers crossed that some of the mojo rubs off onto her, she is really needing a lift. (She has always been smaller than me and she is currently 10 lbs. heavier than I am.)

Elizabeth...I know what you mean by bring motivation to our family members. I am doing the same thing - but my mom just has excuse after excuse. That makes it tough! I have a question about the lettuce wraps - what type of lettuce are you using? I went to the store to try and find Bibb lettuce (I saw that someone uses this) - they didn't even know what Bibb lettuce was. I told them why I was looking for it and they directed me to Romaine Lettuce...it is long leaves of lettuce...is this it? I used this with my chicken the other night and it was delicious - I know that next time I need to dry my lettuce off b/c it was a very wet sandwich...lol.

I am so happy to hear that I can be an inspiration to others because I need some inspiration for myself right now. I almost didn't exercise yesterday and I skipped my water exercise class today. I know I will make up that water exercise class and I know I will exercise 4 times this week but I am starting to get worried. I am so disappointed I only lost 1 pound this week. If I focus on that too much I will give up so I am thinking of getting rid of my scale. I am so tied to it. I need a new one anyway so I am thinking I will throw the old one away and really take my time and do some research and get a really good scale. Once I do get the new scale some time will have passed and I will have developed a better relationship with the scale. I just get on it too much and it is not healthy. Any suggestions for a scale?
Special Olympics. I manage and/or implement recreational programs for individuals with disabilities. Special Olympics is one of my favorites. It is one that I manage so I generally don't provide direct service except for the 1st night of the program, big events, and for staff absences but they still call me "coach". The program I run focuses on track and field skills and they go to time trials, local games, and the state games. Sometimes when I get real bogged down with my job I remember state games last year and the look on the faces of my participants when they won medals. It reminds me why I do what I do.

I think it's a good idea about maybe getting rid of your scale for a while until you can find a new one. It reminded me of that commercial, I think it's for Weight Control oatmeal where it shows the people going about their day with a scale strapped to their ankle. We don't have to live and die by the scale. Yes, it feels great when we see the numbers decrease but there's so much else changing with us, not just the number of lbs. We're shrinking, our clothes are getting bigger on us, our bodies are changing, our face changes and most importantly our self confidence changes.
What you do for the Special Olympics is great. I know it's your job but I can also tell it's a passion that you have and the rewards sound great. You're very lucky.

Romaine lettuce is what they actually used on the show when they introduced the recipe. Bibb lettuce is also called butter lettuce, it come in a clear, hard, round plastic container and actually still has the roots attached to keep it fresh. This is the same lettuce they use on the wraps they make at Chili's. I like using this because I can wrap my turkey burger up like a taco and my salsa doesn't leak out.

I went through the same thing last week! I had gained a pound in fact. I went out and bought a weight watcher scale at Linens N Things for $29. I like it because it weighs me the same as the doctor's scale does. I also just decided to "own" that extra pound and not grieve over it any longer. I even prayed about it, and felt much better afterwards. I just kept trucking along, and now I have lost weight. I will weigh in tomorrow and then post it, but I can feel it in my bones, I have lost! You WILL lose too! Stay with it!!

I love the fact that you took your one pound to the Lord in prayer! It just goes to show that nothing is too small to ask for help with.
