Scared an Excited!
Hello all.
Just joined today!
I'm 24, very overweight, and have been trying to lose weight since high school. I've tried all sorts of things, but as an emotional eater never found any success. I'm incredibly excited to be trying this - but scared too. What if it doesn't work...again! LOL.
I would love tips and advice from people who suffer from the "emotional eating" bug...as well as anyone who suffers from anemia as well. Also, accountability is a big motivator for me, if anyone has ideas on how to adopt an "accountable to myself" attitude that works, let me know!
This is going to be a fun battle...
And to everyone who's well on their way - Congrats! You guys are my hero's!

Welcome to both of you. I understand what you mean about emotional eating - both my husband and I are... unfortunately for us we are at the same time so we don't help eachother. Whenever you are feeling like you want to eat (and you aren't really hungry) really make an effort to recognize why it is you want to eat. Then you can choose whether you are eating cause your hungry or because your sad, agree, tired, bored, etc.
Also if you know you are wanting to eat because of an emotional thing... do something else for 5 minutes. Drink some water, fold some laundry, go for a walk, sign on to this website and type "HELP I'M GOING TO EMOTIONAL EAT - PLEASE TALK ME OUT OF IT" and then if all else fails and you still want to eat... make a good choice in food... not a box of chocolate covered donuts
Again welcome! We are glad you are here!

Welcome to the forums toocute! One tip I've learned through researching emotional eating is to start logging every time you eat and you are not hungry. Then you need to figure out why you just ate without being hungry, was it because you were bored, angry, sad, excited, etc. Next you need to deal with your feelings by figuring out what the issue was that caused you to eat. Also getting support from here or a group such as overeaters anonymous would be helpful. I look forward to chatting with you more soon!

helpful hint
welcome toocute. I too am an emotional eater. I tend to overload when I am bored or upset. (which unfortunately is too often) I am not a big breakfast eater and that has been my downfall. Too change this, I often go and get a smoothie in the morning. I look for the low carb and fat smoothies. I have found that I can sip on a large until lunch and don't get the munchies at all. I watch carefully how they are made and have made some great ones at home that I can add protein powder too. It is so great that you are trying to do something now while you are still young. It is so much harder to do it at my age (39) after three children by c-section. I wish the best of luck and any support that you may need.

I totally agree with you. You have to figure out your triggers and find different ways to deal with them. Some ideas are take a hot bath, go for a walk, write in your journal, do the wait ten minute rule, or clean (even though it isn't fun to do it keeps you moving and you feel good when its done). Just some suggestions. I am more of a bordum eater. Good luck and glad to see you here toocute!

Hello, I just joined yesterday, and I am busy reading, and already loving it here. I hear you about emotional eating, have done that all my life, and have to learn to stop feeding the emotion, and dealing with it instead. It is easier said than done, but together, with others support and motivation, we will get there. One day at a time, one step at a time...and success will follow us. Have a wonderful day...hugz, Leigh
