Hi, Liz!
It's awsome to hear you're a mom of 4 wonderful kids! It sounds like you have about the same issue as I have...pregnancy weight comes on fast, but gets off slow. However for me, my "baby" is going to be 9 and I've struggled with losing weight for that long (ugh!).
One thing to keep in mind about when you're dieting and exercise, the body goes into a "diet haters" mode...it basically decides it doesn't want to follow what you want it to do. It's all about chemestry.
Another thing is that muscle weighs more than fat, and as you're upping your exercise and find a "stall" your body is adjusting to the water retention and changes in the body from fat to muscle...again, chemestry.
I'm not a chemestry student, but I have spent many a years on trying to figure out what's going on with my body and after talking to a few nurses and biology teachers it only makes sense that the body is basically doing it's best to hang on to what it knows best.
Now, all that being said, I've also learned that inches are great to keep track of as your weight fluctuates. I've lost 34 inches and only 13 pounds in over 2 months by exercise and changing my eating habits. It's hard to see that the pounds are moving slowly, because I lose anywhere between a 1/2 to a pound a week, but I feel good and the inches are showing in my loose clothes. Keep track of your inches, if you haven't already, and see how things go in a month to 6 weeks.
I'm not sure what type of daily eating diet you are chosing to eat, but sometimes after preganancies our body also goes through issues of being allergic to foods (so says a nutritionist friend of mine); for me it has been wheat, gluetin, tree nuts, and some dairy. And the only way I found these out were to go through a low carbohydrate diet that removed high carbs and slowly added them back in one at a time to see if there were intolerences. However, if you're successful in doing what your doing, keep doing
I hope what I wrote here makes sense. I think it's great that you're taking time for you to exercise and take care of you for your kids. The energy and feeling of accomplishment is really great!
Give your body time to adjust to what it's been going through and I bet you'll see amazing results
