Talking Amy from Oklahoma

Hi everyone, I am Amy from Oklahoma. I applied to be on BL4. I wasn't anywhere near a casting call, but I sent in a 5 min tape and they said they loved it and asked for another tape, 15-25 minutes. I sent that in and tehy received that one week ago today. It is driving me crazy that I haven't heard back yet. I hope I get on the show. I have been FAT for my whole life, and I have never been a "yo-yo" I just can't lose any weight at all. The only time I ever did was about 30lbs last winter when I did South Beach, but I thought I would TURN IN to an EGG or a piece of canadian bacon! UGH Anyway, even if I don't make it on the show I am determined to get it off, so maybe you all can be a little bit of a support system for me. Thanks for the welcome wagon! Amy

Hi Amy, it's really great to have you here. I left a response to your pm in your mailbox as well. Losing weight can be done, it's just really hard when you go on a fad diet, which are very popular. It has to be something you can stick with long-term for the rest of your life. I don't eat any of that low carb crap...I need a diet that is realistic...and I love my carbs.

Start off by eating 6 small meals a day about every 2-3 hours apart, this will help speed up your metabolism and help burn off more fat.

Eat plenty of dark green vegetables and have 2-3 servings of fruit. I generally eat my fruits and carbs earlier in the day because it's easier to burn them off throughout the day. Whole grains are good, I usually stick to flax whole grain bread or bagels, whole grain pasta etc. Whole grain digests more quickly than the "white" and usually the "white" ends up being stored as fat when you don't digest it.

Get plenty of water.

Try to get at least 30 min of cardio in each day and add strength toning/weight lifting to your routine to tone up. By lifting weights, you will decrease your chances of getting that saggy skin.

Those are a few starter pointers, if you need anything at all, please don't hesitate to toss another email my way

Welcome, Amy. Your prospects of maybe getting to be on the show are exciting! Even if you don't, you'll find lots of great help here. The people here are very encouraging and have lots of good ideas.

I had to laugh when you described your experience with South Beach. I also tried a low carb diet once and I thought I would never be able to face another egg ever again! I'm doing much better not being on a particular diet, but just monitoring calories and trying to make sure I get balanced nutrition.

Hope to hear a lot more from you!

Sue

Welcome Amy....you are in good company here!

Congrats, I know what you mean about going crazy that you haven't heard back yet. I started this process back in July 2006. So far....everytime I think it is getting close to the time that they will be making a decision....I find out they they have delayed it.

Here is a brief timeline:
July 1, 2006 - open casting call
July 1 - phone call for call back
July 4 - 1 hr audition (video and pictures)
**was told they were expecting to cast in Aug. and start filming in Sept.**
end of July/beg of Aug - rec'd call and email that they were delaying the filming until Nov.
November (around Thanksgiving) - rec'd call asking if I was still interested
**was told that they were expecting to casting in December and start filming in Jan**
mid Dec- rec'd call confirming age of children, etc.
**was told they had delayed casting again....expected to cast in mid Feb start filming in mid March**
mid Jan - rec'd a call advising me that I was still in the running, and they wanted a longer video
**timeline still remained the same - casting mid Feb filming mid March
Feb. 12th, 2007 - I called.....dying to know if they had cast yet (they only contact those they have chosen)
***timeline revised again......casting by mid to late March - filming to begininng early April.

This has been a true test of patience!

Welcome aboard...and keep us posted if you hear anything....we will be rooting for you!
