Lightbulb Empty stomach...

Fitness:
Exercise on an empty stomach. You will burn more calories from fat if you exercise on an empty stomach first thing in the morning. And there is more to it. At the end of 24 hours, you still have to create a negative caloric deficit. The bottom line is that you should exercise when it works best for your body and your schedule. If you don't have the energy to exercise in the morning because your stomach is empty, you are better off having a light meal and then exercising.

Thanks Patty. I was wondering about this. I usually exercise first thing in the morning and on an empty stomach. I was wondering if it would be better if I ate something first but maybe I'm ok doing it this way.

I usually exercise in the early evening, immediately after work. My stomach is not empty but I am usually getting hungry as I haven't eaten since lunch, does that count?!! I have to say, I do find it really helps to suppress my hunger and appetite until dinner better than if I don't exercise.

When I exercise first thing in the morning on an empty stomach I feel a bit like throwing up. I think I'm just wierd. I also need to drink water while I exercise. Maybe I don't get enough water daily, then while exercising my body demands it be watered. I guess really you just have to figure out what works for you. Like your quote said, whenever is best for your body and your schedule.

I find that when I wake up in the morning I have lots of energy - I try to get my workouts done in the early morning. Like today - I didn't have much energy b/c I was up most the night with a sick baby...flu - I didn't workout and still haven't ...I just don't have the energy today. Urgh! I am going to do my best in getting it done soon. I just have to get up off my butt. Did I already say "Urgh!" ? LOL

I always eat a light breakfast about an hour before my workouts. My workouts with the trainer are intense and I need fuel or I'll pass out. I feel like upchucking my cookies sometimes just working out with him..if I did it on an empty stomach I can only imagine it being worse! :P

I have found 2 pm works for me I am most alert.. and it is about 2 hours since I ate last.... then I wait like 30 mins and have like a light yougurt.... for a snack. and drink a bottle of water between workout and yougurt...works for me!!...lol..sometimes wrking out on empty stomach makes ya less likey to go all the way casue you run out of energy.

I don't think I could do anything really strenuous on an empty stomach. Definitely not cardio, but maybe some yoga or pilates.
I have wacky blood sugar, I think. If I go too long without eating, I can really start to feel light headed, and dizzy. (woozy, my mom used to call it)
So, I try to always keep fuel in the furnace. I try not to over load, and put in good stuff, but I'm much better off if I don't let it get empty.
I think this is basically a personal preference. 20 years ago, I used to jog. Loved it... but I always did it in the evenings. Sometimes at 9 or 10 o'clock at night. No way would I have done it in the morning! So, whatever works for you. Even if it might be a little bit better to work out in the morning, or to work out on an empty stomach-- you're not going to keep it up if it makes you feel bad, or you just can't drag yourself out of bed to do it. I don't think there are that many more benefits.
I just don't think there's one answer -- no matter how many studies are done. You have to do what works best for you.

I have found working out in the morning before breakfast works better for me. My trainer said you should leave at least an hour after eating before doing exercise.
