Exclamation MY NEW ELIPTICAL SCARED ME....lol

Hi everyone,

OK well I went out and bought myself an elliptical this weekend, and well after the 4 hours of putting it together with hubby, I jumped on it... so excited to have something new to add to my workouts. Well I did 5 mins and thought OH MY GOD if this doesn't make the weight fall off I dont know what will it is a WORKOUT...lol.. well after the five mine I decided to just kind of do a lil 30sec. sprint on it.... felt strong... well UMmmm lets just say.. I can't walk now with out cringing from the pain in my calf's and my upper thighs in the front. Maybe I would have been fine if I didn't do the sprint thing but man...that was Sat. and now it is Monday afternoon and still in pain... Now I am worried that my own stupidness injured me and now I can't workout right now...great here comes the lbs back on...I want to use my new machine...SNIFF SNIFF

well.. I just really need to hear from anyone who has used these machines...what was it like when you first did it... did you feel the burn 2 days later.. after only 5 mins ?? Any info or help about this subject cause I am dying here...lol. not really but really disappointed that I can't work out. I don't think I need the DR. I have been stretching and even tried to get on it for a min today just to stretch my calf out and that felt ok but I don't want to strain it if I already hurt it... HELP I AM CONFUSED...POUT

Talking

Hi Damzel,

Wow a 4 hour session to put it together?? I remember the first time I got on the Eliptical and I HATED it!! 5 mins and I thought my knees were going to give out. Just look at it this way...how did it feel doing your first walking tape? I bet you were a little sore afterwards. Maybe you need to stretch a little before your workout. It is possible that you did pull something, so I suggest you take it easy. BUT....dont turn your new piece of equipment into a coat hanger yet. I would start out with a couple of minutes a day, say 3. Then the next day, do 3 mins and 15 seconds, then 3 mins and 30 seconds. Keep building up and before you know it, you will be doing a half hour or more. Even the most seasoned athletes will be sore trying a new exercise because it targets a whole different set of muscle groups. Dont give up on that machine. Try distracting yourself by talking to somebody else while you are on it, watch tv, or listen to music. Keep up the good work and you will be showing that eliptical who is boss!!

PRO FORM XP130.. from sears...it can be linked up to online workouts from iFIT.com so you can add more programmed workouts and you can get an online trainer thing too for a cost..lol. but they have lots of free ones...

Talking OK not so bad

I have decided that my elliptical is not so bad. I was just stupid... I got on him(figured it must be a him cause he will be a pain in my ass) 3 times today for like 2 1/2 min each time real slow thinking if I work my muscle that hurts it may loosen up and it seems to have helped....but man it is hard not to just get on and push my ass to do a 300 cal workout...want to but think it is better to just go SLOW....lol

The elliptical machines take some time to adjust to, especially if your body is not used to it. You are not injured! You just worked different muscles you are not used to working..it's a good thing! The pain will go away.

You have made a wonderful investment into changing your life! Good for you!

Oh...to soothe your muscles, try relaxing in a hot bath for awhile or massaging the places it hurts. Or if you have a heating pad, that would work too...do some stretching of those muscles before and after you do the workout.

Thank you,

I tried the heating pad last night and it didn't give me any relief.. I am a bit better tonight.. I got back on and did a lil a few times today it seemed to help and did some good stretches. Slow and steady I figure I am not going to turn it into a 550 dollar coat hanger...lol

The elliptical is definitely no joke. My mom who is in great shape and was in the military for 20 years is challenged by it. It is a full body workout. I have a manual one that truly challenges me and takes a lot out of me. When I orginally began doing the elliptical I started with 5 minutes and added 2 minutes each workout. I didn't even add the arms until I had been doing 45 minutes for a long time. Lets not even talk about the programs. I am contemplating buying a elliptical from Proform myself to replace the one I have. I have a treadmill from them and love it.

IT's not easy -just take it slow and remember to properly stretch out your legs well before and after working out on it. If it cramps too much, make sure you're drinking enough water and getting enough potassium -found in good amounts in banannas. You can always do upper body workouts while you're too sore with lower body. Hope it gets better.
