Unhappy About ready to cry!

Well, I just took a major step in calling to find out some informaiton on joining a gym (Curves). The good news is that our local Curves is having a promotion that if you take in a bag of dried goods they're willing to wave the $79.00 annual membership fee. The bad news is in order to do so you have to sign up for a twelve month contract at $30.89 a month. I know that doesn't seem like a lot of money for a membership to a gym, but to me it seems like an awful lot of money for something that at this point I'm not even sure if I'll get much use out of. My hope was to see if they offered some kind of trial membership, but just in order to get a month to month contract you still have to pay the $79.00 annual membership fee, and then the monthly contract would be $41.00 per month. UGH!!!!! For the price of one month there I could pay for four months in an annual membership!!!!! That's just not something I can justify the expense of.

I guess I'm left looking for another source. Also I had intended on going to work out after I got off of work, and being done before the kids were out of school for the day. However, they close down from 1-2 for lunch, and the kids get out of school @ 2:20, so that blows that idea. It appears as if Curves just won't work into my schedule (both financially and time wise). I was REALLY hoping to give it a shot and see how it worked for me. I just don't know if I would be committed enough to justify spending the extra cash every month on the membership. I honestly want to be a good steward of what I've been blessed with and I don't care to throw it away on something I won't use.

I'm so confused right now, I just want to sit down and cry!

Well instead of sitting down and crying I remembered I had a video that a friend had given me several years ago. (Probably about 7 years ago!). Anyway, I went and dug it out and popped it in. I figured if I was mad the best way to release it was to burn it out of me. I ended up doing 45 minutes of exercise and was willing to do more until he said to hit the floor! lol, FORGET THAT!!!!! If I hit the floor, I'm DONE! So, until this body is in a little better shape, the floor exercizes are out for me!!!!

Anyway, I live in a small city, and I'm only aware of the YMCA and curves as gyms around here, so it looks as if I'll have to find natural resources available for exercise. For tonight, Richard Simmons's Sweating to the Oldies will have to do. UGH!!!!! Better than nothing I guess!

Thanks for the suggestion though. I do appreciate it!

I used to go to Curves and it was great as long as you went everyday. Their hours were horrible and it seemed like the excuse of not being able to get to the gym before they closed enabled me to gain a lot of weight last year. This year I switched my membership to another gym that is like Curves but is open from 5am to 10pm, 365 days a year.

I would call Curves and see if you can get a free couple day pass to try it out. Maybe in a couple days you will decide whether you like it or not and whether you think it would be worth the money. The worst that can happen when you ask is they say no and you're really not out anything.

Yea, most gyms offer a free day pass or a free month pass. At least the one I go to does...you should tell them your concerns and maybe they can arrange something for you.

Have you tried your local parks and recreation department? You may be able to buy 1 month, 3 month etc passes that way you can make a decision after trying it out. Some offer classes that if you are a member you can take any class at any center. Or some you can join for a reasonable price for a year. Look into it. Their prices tend to be cheaper than commercial chains.

Look into benefits at your job. Are there any commercial gyms that offer discounted fees to employees from your company? I would check with employee wellness for that info.

Our curves occasionally offers free trial weeks etc but I found the same problems as you -the hours were awful. They close at 5 pm in my town. I get off work at 6. I decided I didn't need curves and tried videos too -I hear you on Richard simmons. My video stars Mary Hart from entertainment tonight and 3 other people who look like barbies with side-ponytails and pink legwarmers -but in the end it gets the job done. Maybe you could rent a workout video or two from a DVD store or find some cheap locally or online to invest in that are at a level you feel comfortable with. Sometimes even libraries have DVDs like these.

Don't get discouraged, but mostly do what you can and don't give up. You dont have to do curves but you know you have to do something. I have spent the last 2 years saying I dont have time to go to the gym, and no I make a priority out of exercisine -walking videos, and maybe someday I'll try a gym.

Hey, Thanks for the idea about checking into work. At one point they were talking about the students being able to get a discount on the YMCA program. I wonder if there's a discount for the employees as well. As for local parks or receration dept? Our city's too small. There are activities available at the park, but we don't really have a recreation dept. Thanks for the idea though!

I know how it is...

I was going to workout @ Curves also...then I realized that when my husband works late I wouldn't be able to workout b/c my kids would be home alone. They are too young to be home alone - even for 45 minutes. When I realized that I had to do something then I started walking. When the cold weather got worse I knew that I couldn't stop now - I was doing so good. I went and bought Leslie Sansone's Walk & Kick video - I now have the Power Mile (1 & 2 video). I workout in my home every day - it beats having to go to a gym. I haven't had any problem getting up and working out - I am like you if I become angry I pop in the video. I also do this when I am bored out of my mind. I hope that you find something you enjoy.

How is the Dance to the Oldies video? I love the oldies!
